Hi all
I have done a lot of research and am keen to step into the world of NAS especially after reading many reviews. I've been comparing the DNS-327L both with the more expensive Synology type ones, as well as the cheaper WD Cloud/Seagate Central options. Partially I'm keen on DLink as I'm very invested in MyDLink products already (routers, IPcams). I'm not too worried about media streaming but it's more of a backup and IP cam; which shouldn't be an issue as my Speedtest results for my home broadband are consistently in the 250Mbps+ range up/down with unlimited data.
My goals are:
1. Upload/download data to the drive remotely via the web interface
2. Upload/download data to the drive remotely via Windows Explorer/Mac OS Finder
3. Able to record/playback video from the IP cams - nonstop recording but with an ability to fast forward to action/motion
4. Able to record/playback video from the IP cams via iPhone over 4G
5. Back up the NAS to my OneDrive or DropBox particularly of the IPcam data
I think #1 is possible using the free DLink DDNS service which I intend to map to my domain name. This is important to me though as it means I'd be able to upload/download on PCs which don't have any client software installed such as my work PC which doesn't allow third party software.
#2 is important as well but I'm not sure if it will be easy to do but am not sure if it's easy to do compared to say the WD/Seagate alternatives... this is important because some software like FBackup would work best if it could just create a mirror to a normal drive.
#3/#4 - self explanatory; and from reading the DNS-327L manual it sounds like it can do most of this except I cannot use my iPhone to watch live or recorded video remotely. Hopefully there is some way to do this because I saw on a pamphlet in a store that such a feature for iPhone was coming soon to the DNS-320L but am not sure how old that poster/comparison chart was.
#5 - this would be amazing as I have a 1TB OneDrive account and it would be great to have an easy offsite backup. I also have about 50gb in my DropBox which should help hold just a couple of days worth of IPcam video files too if needed.
Any thoughts/advice from the community?
(on another note, I read that only Seagate supports uploading/downloading from the web UI whereas WD requires you to use the local client to map the drive).
