Jason I think what are trying to say is going to confuse more people than help. Yes, you use the MAC address in the DHCP Reservation to reserve an IP address that is within the address range that is setup on the router. technically this is NOT a static address it is still an address that is handed out by the DHCP server, it just the same one everytime. If something is given a true static IP address, that address would be outside the range setup for the DHCP server so there would be no chance for conflicts.
