How to assign Static IP Addresses

How can I configure the DIR-655 to always assign the same IP Address to my components?  For example, I want my Network Printer to always have the same IP Address.

On the Setup Pages, Network Settings.  Use the DHCP Reservation to give something the same IP everytime.  This is what I do with my Networked Printer.

correct me if I'm wrong but don't you go outside the scoope of DHCP to assign a Static IP. Example: 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.125, 25 spots to assign your network ip's. now your router is 192.168.0.1, you would go from 2-99 for static ip's outside the control of DHCP.

Yeah that's correct you should go out side of the scope if you're going to manually set static IP's on devices.

DHCP reservation is also convenient so you dont have to assign static IP's so the devices on the LAN will always pull the same IP.

I personally prefer DHCP reservation.

Yes, the DHCP reservation saves the step of physically having to set the IP manually on each device that you want to have the same IP all the time.

I believe that you can assign static ip's through MAC filtering also without the use of DHCP. ???

MAC filtering just allows access to the router, it has nothing to do with the IP address of an item.

what I meaning is through MAC association you can assign static ip's.

Jason I think what are trying to say is going to confuse more people than help.  Yes, you use the MAC address in the DHCP Reservation to reserve an IP address that is within the address range that is setup on the router.  technically this is NOT a static address it is still an address that is handed out by the DHCP server, it just the same one everytime.  If something is given a true static IP address, that address would be outside the range setup for the DHCP server so there would be no chance for conflicts.

JUst to be clear what I'm talking about davevt31, I have Mac filtering enabled and DHCP enabled. THe device I have associated with an certain IP address is outside the scope of DHCP reservation list. It's through MAC filtering and physically being attached to the router that it can be apart of my network. Like the router it has a static IP address not controlled by DHCP.
