Hi,

I have a Cisco phone (which uses encryption/DTLS to encapsulate RTP back to the VPN concentrator, and doesn't provide DSCP preservation...), so I added a QoS rule to prioritize traffic to/from the concentrator which did miracles over my slow ADSL access (about 300Kbps upload).  Recently I upgraded to VDSL and now get a bit over 3Mbps upload.  If I select "Automatic Uplink Speed" in the QoS settings, it reports that the internet connection has surpassed the uplink measurement requirement, and voice quality is worse than it was at 300 Kbps.  I've manually set the upload speed to 2048 Kbps and get better voice quality, but now my upload speed is actually limited to about 1.7 Mbps according to my ISP's speed test.  I'm running Firmware Version 2.11NA.  Any chance for a firmware release which allows for effective QoS above 2 Mbps?  Otherwise, do you have another model to recommend?  Thanks.

Unfortuneately Rev A and B model 655s have a FW limted soft cap on the Uplink. I don't know why this is so don't ask.  D-Link has done this with there routers of this time frame event though ISP speeds were above this limitation and even now speeds increase for the UP. Which brings a debate on weather QoS is really needed on some ISP speeds on uplinks greater than 5 or more. Theres been talk about QoS and the need for it here and there.

From what I gather, D-Link has no plans on making any changes to the 655 and I presume maybe going into EoL in the future. Unless there is security issues found with the older generation routers, I've found that D-Link doesn't changes anything other wise. Going forward, the Rev C 655 doesn't have a soft cap and has a different QoS engine that allows great UP speeds. I have this model router. You might try and find one of these, or a DIR-645, or any newer DIR 8 series model routers most have newer generation QoS with out the low soft cap. The DIR-815/825 is not one of these models however. Most newer generation routers today have better QoS engines and support faster up link speeds.

Have you set this phone system into the routers DMZ and disabled TS and QoS to see if the phone works in this configuration?

Hi Furry. Sorry for not responding sooner.  Since the DIR-655 wasn't doing qos properly I just stopped using it and now just use my service provider's router, which also doesn't do qos.  The voice is normally ok, just have occasional bad quality that could be avoided if I could configure qos that works with DTLS.

Might try the Mod FW and see how it does.

I prefer to use any VoIP voice device placed into any routers DMZ. Helps to ensure good operation for voice devices.

Let us know results if you try the mod FW. Would like to know if it works better.
