StreamBoost throttling my speed
« on: October 13, 2015, 08:18:21 PM »

Hello all!

Just got the 5500, replaced my 4500 (R.I.P.  you gave me your best for 8 long years)

Having a slight issue with speed and Streamboost.

Here is my speed w/o StreamBoost enabled.

Here is my speed with SB enabled (get the same results with  ABE enabled as well)

I am in Houston Tx (A suburb of it).
Suddenlink ISP (Cable)
Computer is hardwired to router.
5500 FW version:   1.11     Date: 23 Oct 2013
Modem Manf: Arris
Modem Model:  TM822G

Checking through the router page tells me firmware is up to date but I see 1.12 and 1.13 available. DLink FW Download page  Wanted to check here if i should go to 1.13 since the router check told me it was all up to date.

Thanks for you time.

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?
  • Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?
  • Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options, Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel. For the DGL-5500, review this for Streamboost information and settings: Furry's DGL-5500 Review

Let us know if disableing ABE first, then both SB and ABE bring speeds back up.

I recommend manually updating FW on routers using the followoing process:
Link> >FW Update Process

Let us know the speed results before attempting a FW update.

Sorry thought I gave all that info already.

Region: Houston Texas
Harwired to router
Speeds are drastically reduced with SB and ABE enabled, same with just SB enabled.
The only way I get my normal, accurate speed is with SB disabled.

Ok, Lets go for the upgrade:
http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=62140.0

Please sure you follow the FW update process and give the SB and ABE time to test and settle in before making any speeds tests and changes. I recommend turning OFF ALL other devices accept for one wired LAN PC. Also reboot the ISP modem right after the FW file is sent. Set up from scratch after the last Factory reset, set up WiFi and then leave the router alone until SB and ABE testing is done. Keep checking the Testing status of SB. Once it's complete post it's findings here. I'm hoping it should be close to your ISP speeds then.

Lets use the New DGL-5500 Only Firmware Update Process. I'll be installing my 5500 this evening since my ISP upgraded my speeds from 50/ to 100/3. Need to see how the 5500 does since it hasn't been online in a while.  ::)

Ok following that now.   BTW did the facotyr reset before and after the FW upgrade.
Both times was forced through the intial setup.  After FW upgrade, and factory reset, went through initial setup and initial speed test said failed.  Did not see any mention about that in the fw instructions so I am wondering now that I am at the step waiting for the streamboost page to say DONE if it will even ever get there since My test was failed and it told me to check my network connection.

Ya I gave up and disabled ABE. Set 120 and 4. I'll enable ABE right before bed and check in the morning.

I've had ABE disabled for several months now (since changing to a new ISP).  I'm getting the speeds I pay for (100Mbps DOWN / 5Mbps UP).  When I did have ABE enabled, I was only getting about 80% of subscribed speeds (80-85Mbps DOWN / 4.25Mbps UP), which is an indication that Streamboost was doing what it was intended to do (I think  ???)

My 5500 is soon to be retired, boxed up, and headed to the closet to accompany the 4500.  Making way for the D-Link DIR-890L.   ;D

Ok been over an hour, streamboost page still says Testing.

Still not sure what I should with do this issue.   Still says Testing on the Streamboost page.
Disabled ABE, Manually set speeds to 200/20 ookla speedtest gave me 175/15
Disabled SB and got my regular speeds 212/21

 Faulty router?

Also,  it sees my computer and my wifes mac  (both hard wired) in the my network section(no computer name for either, but ip and mac address) , but neither computer are showing in the port fwd computer section, nor are they listed in the Network Settings under Dynamic DHCP.

Faulty SB code from QualComm.  >:(

Ya I let mine run over night. Managed to get up from 24Mb to 32Mb. Oh boy. So I disabled ABE.

Set SB enabled and input 220Mb and test.

Ok will do that

When you say Test do you mean the Test bandwidth button on that Streamboost page? or the test via the speedtest site?

Asking because previously I noticed with ABE disabled and manually clicking Test button, the progress meter comes up, takes about 3 min to complete and then just disappears.

I'll make another thread about the router not showing my hardwired mac and windows computers.
