Hard factory reset?
« on: November 13, 2015, 05:46:12 AM »

I stupidly tried to install a firmware and then I could not recognize it on my PC or streaming device. I then tried to hard reset it with a paperclip and pushed that at the same time as the power button. the lights flickered orange. So something happened. But I'm trying to set up again using the dlink software but still no luck! Any "helpful" suggestions. I'm toying with the idea of getting a synology or Buffalo instead, but ideally I'd like to keep my files!

What firmware were you trying to install and are you sure it installed?

Do the indicator LEDs light on the RJ-45 sockets of both the NAS and your router/switch?

Doing a hard reset returns the IP address of the NAS to the factory default.  Does your network have a DHCP server or are you using fixed IPs?

Check using a network scanner (Netscan by SoftPerfect is free and has a 32 and 64 version for windows) that the nas does actually appear in the network.

If it appears in the network scan use that IP address in your browser (http://192.168.xxx.xxx for example) and see if you can access the web UI.  If you can then make the necessary settings and you should be up and running again.

IF non of the above give results and you were trying to update the base firmware then that firmware was not fully installed and need to be reinstalled.

I tried to install Alt-f, obviously shouldn't have.
There's lights on sockets of Ethernet cables.
I'm with Sky, I think it was a fixed IP address though as I always typed it to access the web interface.
It doesn't appear in the scanner. what's the default ip address?

May just buy something else., dlink isn't that user friendly!

Sorted! I had put ALT-F Firmware on it and it changed IP address.

Now I just need to work out how to access Mydlink account with it lol

I am glad you found the problem.  A changed IP address is the usual one and sometimes there is also a changed subnet (many of the large ISPs tend to do things their way on their routers which conflicts with many standards).

Sorry but I can't help with MyDlink because we don't use it - we have our own 'in-house' cloud setup on our own servers.
