I am using different D-Link IP cameras for home security (models DCS-7010L and DCS-2132L). Having accidentally deleted a days recording from Windows Explorer (hard deleted, so not in recycle bin); I tried different recovery software, from which 'Recuva Free' worked good for me, and I was able to undelete about 70% of data. After placing all files in respective folders (like main folder is 20151115, with sub folders: C00001, C00002, C00004, and C00005), Record.log in place, and some other .rcd files (C00001.rcd etc. in main 20151115 folder [recalling from top of my head since I'm not at home right now]), I tried to play it back from D-VIewCam app, but although the date is visible in player's calender, no time line data is being shown, so I cannot play the recovered files.

I tried renaming a .dat file to .mp4, and .mpg for testing, but it did not play back on Windows player. Reading somewhere on the same forum, I see it is propriety data.

So is there any way to play back the recovered files other than D-ViewCam app? Because the app itlself does seem to help much.

Thanks

I guess this would mean this is a learning experience huh? Ya, I don't know if DVC can do that after all the data has been fiddled with and probably in a corrupt state. No experience here with this kind of condition. I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

Thanks for you comments - apparently the 'propriety' data is not so propriety after all; although DVC cannot play it back because of missing chunks of data, but Media Player Lite DAT can. So at least we found what we were looking for...

Thanks for sharing the information. Glad you were able to get what you needed. I recommend being careful when it comes to the DVC files and handling them.

Enjoy.  ;)
