Firmware update problem
« on: December 02, 2015, 05:56:51 AM »

PC user, Windows 10. Trying to upgrade my DIR-615 firmware. I downloaded the upgrade file to my Desktop. I went to Tools/Firmware/Firmware Upgrade. I tried to select the "Choose file" button but it shows up as faded and can't be selected. I clicked on it anyway, and of course nothing happened. I made a screen capture, but I don't know how to insert or attach it to this message. Appreciate it if anyone can help. Thank you.

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Are you experiencing problems so your upgrading FW?

Hardware: I1, Firmware: 9.00NA, Region: USA, Google Chrome. I went to http://192.168.0.1/ and my Hardware and Firmware versions agree with the versions on the page. From time to time I get a message that my router has a problem, nothing specific mentioned. Since my router is 3 years old I thought it would be smart to check on upgrades.
This might all wind up as water under the bridge since yesterday I purchased a DIR-817L dual band router from D-Link for $29.99.

As far as adding a screen shot, I read the instruction page you referenced and I don't have an image hosting service. I saved the screen capture to a file, can I add a file to a message or reply? Thank you for responding.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?  WOW! Internet and Cable Company / Modem

Has the router been working up to this point? Yes, as far as I know. I know that a general rule to follow is "if it's working don't upgrade.". However, if I choose to upgrade it shouldn't be this difficult.

When my DIR-817LW arrives in the mail and I disconnect the DIR-615 and connect the DIR-817LW, there's a better than even chance I'll be back here asking for further assistance. Hope installations a no-brainer! Thanks for helping out.

I recommend testing the new router right out of the box and don't upgrade. It should work well out of the box.

Good Luck.
