Recommended DSL Router for DNS-320L
« on: December 20, 2015, 11:08:52 PM »

Greetings
hi everyone just wondering if you have any recommendation regarding about he DSL Routers what model is good for DNS-320L with 3 IP Cameras
as i have a DSL-2750E but it seems that i keep losing connection between DNS and the IP cameras (Time to Time on Random patern)
http://i.imgur.com/IlDJwlT.png

IP Cameras is DCS-5020L and DCS-942L
using my survielance 2.05

Im thinking that my dsl router is having a bottle neck handling the ip cameras and using the net simultaneously
so wondering if what would be the best DSL router to use on this situation..

thanks in advance.

Two things come to mind:

1) use a Gigabit switch to connect the cameras to the NAS and only use the router as the DHCP server.  We have no problem with the 10 cameras covering the external areas and carpark, but then they are on their own internal subnet and nor accessible from the internet.
2) how secure is your firewall?  Could the drop-out be caused by an external hack of the cameras?

i just use the firewall feature on the DSL router itself external firewall i dont have.

the thing is i tried to use my old DSL- 2730U i thinkg that around 6 years old used tried to use it on this settings with the cameras and it work flawless without drop. but after a month a black out happen to our village after couple of hours power came back on but the DSL-2730U dindt come back on and never went back on again so no choice but to use the DSL-2750E again.. and dropout came back too.

do you think that the network is being hacked?

how can i able to seperate the ip cameras network? yet access it online. (sorry for a noob question i am not that tech guy.)

do you think instead of changing the DSL Router i should get a gigabyte switch to use to connect the cameras and dns on separate network (diff subnet)

in this setting would it be still accesable online? particular the mydlink app and DDNS service.

thank you so much for your time and patients

of forgot to mension that all camera is connected to network tru wifi.. only the nas is connected wired.

A few more things to think about:

1) did you change the default login for the cameras?  If not you are inviting the world to view what they are seeing.

2) do you have good security encryption on your wifi setup?  If not you are inviting trouble.

3) is there another wifi on the same channel as yours near you?  Two units on the same channel close together can, and do, interfere with each other causing drop-outs.  Use a wifi sniffer to find out.

4) evaluate exactly what you want to achieve with the cameras.  24/7 availability from the internet might not be the way to go.  Motion sensors that activate the cameras might be worth consideration.

I don't know if your setup is domestic or business - the two are very different in use and requirements.  In the case you give I suspect hacking or wifi interference is causing your problem.  Assuming you are using the wifi built into your router the speed of wireless n should not be a problem but since the router only has 100BaseT for wired connections it could, in some situations, become very slow which will again be ****e to drop-outs.

all default log in has been change on first installation all has assigned a individual ip address and diff ports.
wifi encription is also in good one..

on channels i have think of that last week and change it to channel 3 which is clear and no one is using.. still having drops randomly...

its home use cameras.. i tried to do motion which is still having drops, and yes achieving to be availabe on net 24/7 which is due to i am not always on home..

which is still goes down of me thinking that the dsl router is not good to run on ip cameras etc.

was thinking to get the DSL-2877AL

do you think it will change anything and is it a good investment?
