DCS-2332l- POE connection
« on: January 09, 2016, 03:18:04 PM »

Hi

I purchased 2 of these cameras second hand, they both came without power supplies as i was told they were POE enabled cameras.
Therefore i assumed i wouldn't need a power supply.

I have a Netgear Fs108p switch that offer 4 POE ports so i was hoping to use those to power the camera.

However when i put these in i get no camera power.
I have a power supply from another camera that enables the camera to work so i have added the camera to mydlink portal, but once i disconnect the power the camera goes off.

Firstly, are there non-poe versions of this camera, if so how do i tell (other than it not working!),
Secondly, am i doing something wrong in the set up?
Thirdly, i assume all Cat5 cable provide POE?

Hopefully i haven't been swindled on these cameras!

Thanks
Richard

There is a POE version of this camera, which looks the same except for not having the Wi-Fi antenna of course, but it is model number 2310.  The 2332 is not a POE camera, unfortunately.

Cheater. :)

Those don't make the camera a POE device, of course. But they do remove the need to have a power source near it.

Thanks.

So I guess by just using the switch it wouldn't work but what I would need is the splitter at the end- do u think it would work in that instance?
All I really need is to avoid the power source near the device.

Look at the graphic diagram here and see how it could be configured:
http://us.dlink.com/products/business-solutions/1-port-gigabit-poe-splitter/

I presume the DPEs provide the POE, it's where at the DPE device, I think that there is a power connection from the DPE to the DCS camera, so there will be a power connection cable connected from the DPE to the cameras power plug in that normally is where the cameras power adapter is used. I think. I haven't seen this in action and was recently told about it while asking some questions about some camera options for a buddy of mine thats looking to install a couple.
