DNS-323 Constant Hard Drive Activity
« on: July 10, 2009, 07:15:47 PM »

I started my DLink DNS-323 today after it had been turned off for about a week.  There was near constant hard drive activity for the several hours that I had it on.  I am able to access and store data without any problems.  Prior to turning it off the other day, it would go into sleep mode after the default period of inactivity.  It has had firmware 1.06 for a few months, so I just (today) successfully upgraded to version 1.07.  The upgrade to firmware version 1.07 was done after the problem with near constant hard drive activity had started.  I did the firmware upgrade to see if the problem would go away but it did not.

What may be causing this problem and what can I do to fix the problem?

Thanks in Advance.

Do you have active incomplete downloads prior to shutting it down the last time?
What servers are enabled?

It shut off with a brief power outage.  I did not turn it back on until yesterday.  When I turned it back on yesterday is when the problem started.  The settings are default.  I have not made any changes to servers.

Does the status screen show the device "Resyncing" ? or does it show completed.

"Completed" and it continues with near constant hard disk activity.

Try resetting the unit to factory defaults. It is recommended to do this after a firmware update.

I have the same problem (constant activity) on my Volume_2.  I'm set up for Raid 1 configuration, and I store my data on Volume_1.

The activity light (blue light) is constantly flickering for Volume_2.  It's been doing this for over 48 hours.  I have two 1TB drives with only about 500GB of data.

Should my Volume_2 be flickering (active) for this long?

Not sure if this helps any, but I had this issue with 1.07.  After installing the 1.08beta firmware, no more issues.

SOLUTION:

ECF's advice of restoring to factory settings after a firmware upgrade did the trick.  My LEDs are now in a solid state.

Thanks!
