DCS-5009L with firmware v1.06.02
DNR-202L with firmware v2.02.00

I use dlinkddns.com to access, usually, rather than myDlink, because it seems faster.

Regardless of how I access my 202 (ddns, mydlink or iPhone) -- I can no longer playback.  I could at one time.  Don't know if this is a Java issue or a C++ issue or an add-in issue (I've used IE and Firefox, to no avail and - remember, I'm trying iPhone too), but I can suddenly no longer see anything on the playback screen.

I know it's recording, because it's eating up hard drive.  Additionally, I'm set to OVERWRITE on the HD, but it doesn't seem to do that, as I've gotten HD full messages.

But on the dates where there should be recordings, it's not highlighted red as it should be and, if I click that day on the calendar, nothing happens.

Oddly, it worked briefly last night -- then stopped again.  On the playback tab - nothing shows in any of the 4 preview screens, and there are no "red" dates indicating that recordings exist.

Ideas to troubleshoot this, please!

Does the play back work on the mydlink.com service?

Using IE, I first get "The mydlink services plug-in needs to be installed." (even though it has been)

I allow it to run uplayer-1.0.2.7.msi.  Restart IE, plugin launches, connect button clicked.

"There is a problem with this website’s security certificate."  I click "Continue..."

Screen with menu "bar" comes up, LIVE video displays, click the Playback tab, I get 4 empty previews.

Click the calendar icon to "View Recorded Files" and nothing is indicated in the calendar.  As though it's not recording.

Cancel, go to Status tab, and here's the disk status:
Name: Cruzer   
Total Hard Drive Capacity: 3.7 GB   
Used Space: 91.0 MB   
Unused Space: 3.6 GB   
Status:   Recording

I know that the camera is motion triggering, because I am recording to FTP when it records (see my other post).

If I start manual recording on the DNR-202L, this seems to "kick" recording into gear, at least briefly.  I hear my attached USB hard drive "ticking," but eventually I check and see NO recordings indicated AT ALL on the attached HD. 

Anyone have troubleshooting tips, for what appears to be a good setup that works sporadically, but eventually fails despite trying two different attached drives?

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.

Can you tell me what phone number I should use?  I had a bad experience trying to contact Dlink by phone last week about something else (access to this forum!) and got lost in a phone-purgatory.

In addition -- each time the scheduled recording is to start, I get an "HDD1 Error" email alert.

This drive SHOULDN'T be bad, and has been freshly formatted -- but is this error the result of a bad drive?  The only message ON the NVR status log page is "usb error."  No indication of what kind of HD error, or if it's the USB connection or the drive itself.

And - if so -- are USB flash drive/sticks okay to use with the 202?

I get Dlink "multimedia" support, when I call this #.  Is that the correct phone #?

Spent most of today trying to figure out why I can now manual record just fine (my external USB HD needed an additional power supply, possibly) -- but NO motion/event recording is taking place.

VERY frustrating.  Also, that my dynamic dns connection worked okay for both the NVR and my camera, using ports, previously -- but no longer.  Seems like just when I get something resolved, something else "breaks."  This is keeping me from buying more DLink.

Okay - I called them during the day.  They say I need to call them from home, the location of the devices, because the setup will be different if I'm local than if I'm remote.  Really?  I'm accessing via a dynamic dns service, and see exactly the same screens here that I see when at home.  And I've done all these settings at home, with no changes.  Does accessing it locally really make a difference?  Or are they just stalling?

I'm most concerned about the fact that everything appears to be set up correctly but, on the 202, the log files for the system and the NVR show activity today, but the EVENT log shows nothing for 5 days.  And I'm seeing motion before my very eyes.

I really wanted to add more DLink/myDLink cameras, but this is such a tenuous setup that now I'm afraid to spend more $$.

Was actually told to call back at a different number, after using that "multimedia support" number and being transferred.

Addendum:  I just did a number of things, and think I "pushed" it to start working: 
1) on the camera, I disabled motion detection, saved, enabled it again, saved.
2) on the 202, under settings>event settings, I turned on motion detection in the camera event settings section, but disabled all email addresses.  I thought that this settings ONLY controlled email actions, but maybe it controls recording, too??
3) Finally, because I've seen a reference to changes not triggering until the schedule hits a milestone, I deleted the schedule for today, saved, and then re-copied it from yesterday, and saved.

Because I didn't think to move the camera (and because there was no other motion occurring) until after I made all these changes, I'm just retest3ed and it seemed to be #2 that did the trick.

So does this mean that I cannot get texts about the connection being lost WITHOUT ALSO having to get a text anytime there's motion?  I'd like to get system warnings via text, but just view my recordings at the end of the day without having to get a text each time its triggered!

Disappointing that support didn't have me check/try this...

Had been working fine since my last post -- then, I got an unexplained HDD1 error in the middle of the night, and the same symptoms came back:  appears to be recording (log file indicates that it is, HD graph seems to be showing increasing usage) but the PLAYBACK screen on the 202 shows NOTHING.  I actually manually pushed it into recording, yesterday, and saw those recordings on the calendar on the playback screen -- today, they're gone, and using the same steps to get it working as I used last time is having no effect. 

Better error messages (WHAT was my HDD problem, for example) would be great.  I have no clue why this isn't working - again.  Don't have much faith that DLink tech support will help, given what they "needed" me to do last time (that turned out to be unnecessary).

FTP event recording from the camera itself is working fine.  The HD seems to be the 'weak link,' here, but there's no reason it shouldn't be good.  If I connect the HD to my PC and format it on the PC - do I want it to be NTFS or FAT?

You may want to try a different HDD and test.
What is the Mfr and model of the HDD?

If you put in a new HDD does the DNR bring up a format wizard, if so use that to format the HDD. Usually D-Links storage products format any HDD to there own format and don't use FAT32 or NTFS.
