Hey everyone,

i have a question.
We have a small student house (80 room), 1 floors with each 40 rooms (see attachment).
At this moment we use only the Lan cable.
WE want to upgrade each room with wifi. Of course a solution would be a business wifi on the floor, but we cannot do that (at this moment).

We thought, we can give each resident, that he want to have a wifi access, an DIR-850L. Then he have his own Wifi and he is lucky.
but i don't know, if it works with over 40x 850L on one floor. We can reduce the transmission power, but what about the room side-by-side. should they have conflicts..

What is the sq footage of this building and rooms?

Giving each resident a wireless router would not be good. There is only certain limited number of wireless channels that can be used and having these routers in close proximity to each other would cause interference and other problems. Even though the routers may have power settings that if they were set to LOW, you would have to ensure that each router was set for LOW and kept there.

The DIR series routers are a home class router and meant for one building with maybe up to 20 connected clients per house hold. Also contributing factors is application and device connections which take up more than just one connection, a device can have many application connections running thru the router. Also bandwidth needs to be taken into consideration as well and your ISP services to the tenants.

I recommend using a business class DAP and getting possibly 2-3 of these DAPs in place spread out across the building and having the tenants connect to this managed wireless system that you manage.

I recommend phone contacting D-Link sales and asking them about business class DAP that can run numerous clients for your needs.

+1 Does your school have a IT department? This isn't something you want to do with consumer equipment. Who originally set up the LAN network?

Also, there was no attachment and I didn't understand your description of the property. 1 floor with 40 people, yet there are 80 people? Did you mean 2 floors, each with 40 people?
