Hello!

I have a Linksys router coming connected to an Apple Airport Express through which I have wireless internet access on both my Windows XP machine and my wife's Macbook.

When I'm plugged into my router, I was able to format my two drives in a RAID1 configuration and and map to the DNS-321 after a bit of troubleshooting. Now I'd like to be able to connect to the DNS-321 over my wireless network here in my home (not remotely) on my windows XP machine first, then on my wife's mac. I imagine the process is roughly the same for both machines.

I understand that I'll likely need to adjust setting in both my router and the airport, and while I don't need a screen shot by screen shot tutorial, but I'm not even sure roughly the order to go in to perform this process.

Right now, my DNS-321 doesn't show up when I'm connected to the Airport, but I'm not really surprised since the IP address I'm assigned from it doesn't have the same prefix as when I was connected directly to the router.

Where can I start? Your help is sincerely appreciated!

I would suggest running the Easy Search Utility that came with the device on CD from your Windows based PC. This should detect the new IP address on the box (or make sure that it got one and is not at the default 192.168.0.32). Then you can configure a new IP address on it and hopefully go from there :).

I'm totally on board with this.

Where I run into trouble is that I see a lot of unique IP addresses, and I'm not sure what I want to change and what I want to conform.

For instance, I see that if I go to myipaddress.com I'll get an IP address that I believe is unique to my home.

on my macbook, I see an IP address of both my router from my cable modem (10.0.1.1) and my Airport Express (10.0.1.3)

If I plug my PC directly into my router I'll get a DHCP address of 192.168.15.x, and my my DNS-321 will get an IP address of 192.168.15.y.

What I'm looking to do is to be able to connect to my DNS-321 from within my home but not through the FTP client.

I went ahead and tried to set my DNS-321 with an IP address of 10.0.1.200, but wasn't able to see it over my wireless network.

What's the general strategy for going forward?

Thanks in advance, your help is very appreciated!

You device must be on the same IP address range to communicate. If one is on 192.168.1.xx and the other is on 10.0.1.xx then cannot talk to each other.

What is the address of the computer on the wireless network?
