DAP-1522 bridge/AP pair not passing MDNS multicast
« on: July 11, 2009, 12:32:54 PM »

I have a pair of DAP-1522s that I recently bought. I have a Roku connected to the 1522 in bridge mode, and it can connect to the internet just fine, but can't see the music server on my LAN. If I hardware the Roku to the LAN it of course sees the server just fine.

On the 1522 in AP mode I do have IGMP snooping and WMM enabled (Advanced | Advanced Wireless), per the documentation, but no joy.

These units came with 1.10 firmware, same behavior with that, prior to upgrading to 1.20.

Has anyone successfully gotten a Roku or other player that uses MDNS working over a pair of 1522s?

I'd appreciate any hints/suggestions on how to get this working.

Thanks!

Is QoS activated in the devices ?
If yes, try without.

At least in bridge mode I had problems with QoS.

Also try to disable IGMP snooping. But only one change at a time  ;D
WMM ist a wireless QoS only that may affect performance but not functionality.

Thanks for the suggestions, lizzi555. QoS was indeed activated. Here are the tests that I just tried:

QoS, WMM, IGMP snoop all on: no joy
Qos OFF, WMM on, IGMP snoop on: no joy
QoS OFF, WMM OFF, IGMP snoop on: no joy
QoS OFF, WMM on, IGMP snoop OFF: no joy
QoS OFF, WMM OFF, IGMP snoop OFF: no joy

WMM and IGMP snoop are AP-side only settings. QoS was on on both sides, turned it off on both.

Is your configuration similar to mine? That is, 1522-AP, 1522-bridge, and a music device off the bridge?

Thanks

Not 100% - DIR-655 in AP-Mode (no WAN connected) -> 1522 Bridge -> 3 Media Devices but here it is working since I disabled QoS. (Firmware 1.20EU here on DAP-1522)

Just to close this out, I finally gave up and poured more money into DLink (you're welcome) and got a DIR-825. Just installed this morning, so hopefully not prematurely saying that it works great, solves the problem, connects at 5Ghz and so far I'm smiling. I guess the bonus is that I replaced my other AP (linksys 11G) with the other 1522. So, now I have a 1522 AP, and 1522 Bridge. The 1522 Bridge connects to a DIR-825 rev B1, which has no internet connection (LAN only).
