Port Forwarding\DMZ\...
« on: July 12, 2009, 11:55:29 AM »

To start with, I have a revision 1A with firmware 1.01.

Port forwarding does not work, and DMZ does not work.  Basically there is no way for this router to allow a connection attempt to my FTP server.  Am I missing something, or is this actually a $130 piece of junk that can't even be used in conjunction with an FTP server?

Just to avoid idiot answers, I will tell you what I have tried.  I locked my main PC's lan address to 192.168.0.100, and then I tried DMZ.  DMZ did not work at all.  BTW this FTP server works fine if I do not use the router.  I was upset about DMZ not working, but I figured I could still forward my port.  Tried that... nothing.  I also set up a virtual server entry, nothing.  I found this Application thing that I never heard of before, didn't do anything either.

My FTP server is important so until I get this resolved, my router is sitting on the floor unplugged, and I can't play XBOX or use my laptop.  I picked D-Link because the brand has never failed me in the past.  Hope I don't get let down now, as if I can't get port forwarding to work here, then the router is as valuable as a brick to me.

sorry I can't help you with the FTP server, but I can tell you that I am using both port forwarding and virtual servers and they both work fine.

I am using the port forwarding to forward 3 ports to my windows home server, and forward port 5900 to my desktop so I can use VNC

I had to setup the virtual servers for our XBox.

I setup a virtual server for Port 53 TCP, Port 3074 Both, Port 88 UDP, to my XBox and it works fine.

DLink tech support helped me set that up.  I told them that I couldn't get my XBox working and they seemed to know exactly what to do to make it work.

I set my network to 192.168.1.1 and subnet to 255.255.255.0

I set the DHCP to start at 192.168.1.100 and have the XBox, my desktop computer, and my Windows Home Server all set with Fixed IP addresses below 192.168.1.100

What revision is your DIR-825?  Mine is A1 / 1A whatever order it is.  I have also tried it for different types of servers, HTTP server on port 1337, among others, to no avail.  I will try the 192.168.1.100 instead of 192.168.0.100.  I'll let you know my results.  There is no logical reason that the default 192.168.0.* would not work and the 192.168.1.* would, but I am kinda desparate so we will give it a shot.

As I thought... no impact at all.  I was perusing through the 855 forum, you know the 300$ version of this trash.  They got the same problem over there.

Sorry, I didn't get back here sooner.  Yes, I'm using hardware version A1 and firmware version 1.01

yes, you are correct that the original network IP range should work just fine.  The only reason I changed mine is because the rest of my network was already set to 192.168.1.1.

I was telling you that instead of using port forwarding for the XBox, I used the Virtual Servers and it worked fine.

I believe I may have changed the security settings to WPA ONLY.

Doex your XBox connect directly to the router, or do you use a wireless gaming adapter?
