How to Revoke DHCP Clients
« on: May 07, 2016, 02:57:03 AM »

My Router is DIR-825
I believe that my table may be full and I have some clients that I can "Revoke" however when I click the Remote block, the web page
resets and the client does not appear to have been Revoked  ( the client's blocks in the table remain populated).  Is this normal,
or am I missing something ?
Thank you,
Ken Boardman

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

I would set up some reservations for most of your devices that need router management:
  • Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting and maintain consistency for applications that need to connect as well as mapped drives.

For printers, NAS, cameras and controllers that don't need much internet or any router management, set up Static IP addresses out side of the routers main DHCP IP address pool. Review the link above for information regarding this.

Thank you for responding, and for the useful and interesting tips.
Numerous devices have no trouble connecting wirelessly when
the " WEP " security code is entered;  however we are having trouble
connecting a new laptop via wireless.  It connects easily via hardwire CAT5.
Is it possible that this new laptop requires wireless connection via a
different security type (other than WEP) ?  Perhaps WPA ?
Question >  In the line "   DIR-825 FW v2.09NA Rev B Only Released  "  What
exactly does "  Only  " mean ?
My HW Version is " B1 "
Firmware version is 2.02NA
My region Poway, CA (San Diego area)
Best regards,
Ken

You should be using WPA or WPA2 is preferred as WEP was compromised. I presume most newer devices now days may not support WEP anymore. Some newer generation routers don't have WEP support anymore.

Give WPA or WPA2 a try...

Also your FW is out of date as well...

Thank you for the info.  Can you recommend one of the firmware updates to try ?  Looks like I'm several behind  :-[
Also I'll try changing my Security type to WPA as you suggest.  I've already backed up my current config.
Does updating the firmware "wipe" the (clients) table ?
Best regards,
Ken
UPDATE >>  Good news > I got the new laptop connected this afternoon.  I believe that changing the security
feature from WEP to WPA / WPA-2 as you suggested did the trick.  The issue did not go quietly though :'(
The good results did not occur immediately.  So I continued tinkering by rebooting the router, restarting the
main PC and the laptop, changing the WPA password from letters (words) only,  to alpha numeric, etc.
And at some point the laptop gave up,  and connected  ;D
Thanks again for the great tips,
Ken

Glad you got it working.

Last version of FW available is v2.09, you need to install v2.05 first, then v2.09 if you what to upgrade. v2.09 fixes the year issue of not going past 2012 or something like that. v2.09 is good. If it's working for you now, keep whats loaded if you want.

Enjoy.
