Hello all

I have been running my DIR-655 router with rules, added under "access control". These rules ensured that my Synology Diskstation would only be able to access the internet, through my VPN providers IP addresses. It worked great. Buy my router has died, and i have moved to a place where my internet is supplied through a telephone wire and not RJ 45 (big building complex). so now, my WAN router is a zyxel router from my ISP and if i buy another Dlink router, my home network, would be like this:

WAN -> Zyxel router -> Dlink router -> Synology Diskstation

So my question is, Will the "access control" rules apply, if the dlink router is 2nd? Even if the dlink router has DHCP turned off?

Hope i am making sense. Its kinda hard to explain

I could as long is the ISP modem is either bridged or you use the Modems DMZ for the 655s WAN port IP address.

• If the ISP modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>Double NAT and How NAT Works. Call the ISP and ask to see if the ISP modem can be bridged. To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged. If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ. Also check the routers DHCP IP address maybe conflicting with the ISP modems IP address of 192.168.0.1. Check to see if this is the same on the ISP modem, and if modem can't be bridged, change the DIR router to 192.168.1.1 or .0.254.

Current status is that, i have bought a new DIR-655 router, that i can use for the access control rules. My ISP sais that i can use their WAN router in bridge mode, but it is easiest if i buy a static IP address from them. So when i recieve the new router, i will try it all out and report back..
