Hello guys,
i searched everywhere with no luck,
i installed 2 HDDs seagate 4TB each,with a RAID 1 settings,
than i thought why waste 2 hdds lifetime, where i can use the other more portably,
anyways i placed all my data on it,which took ages btw (not satisfied with the enclosure at all)
now i want to SIMPLY remove 1 HDD and just format it to a usable hdd to use in an enclosure on windows,
how dahell can i do that, when i screened every possible solution with no luck,
is the HDD forever bound to the sharecenter !!
thanks for your thoughts and sorry but a little frustrated with this sharecenter

My first reaction is 'why'?  Why get a NAS in the first place if your data is so worthless that you don't care if you lose it because of a disk failure.

Now, down to your perceived problem.  The speed of transfer of files to the NAS is, to a very large extent, determined by the network and what you are copying from.  Anything running through a 100Base-T router is going to be 'slow' before any things like Wireless, ethernet power plugs are added.  Then there is how the computer sending the data handles that job which can again slow things down.

Now there is nothing to stop you pulling one disk, inserting it into a USB caddy and formatting it with, I assume, one of the windows file systems BUT...  It is a big but because it will leave you with a degraded RAID 1 array so you will should reformat the remaining drive in the NAS as a single disk and copy all the data back again.

Since drives are cheap it would be better to get a 2 or 3 TB 2.5 inch unit that is already in a USB caddy especially since the smaller units are more robust and are much better for moving about.

Hoping this message helps the OP - please read and try to understand

I hear your frustrations and have experienced similar with DLinks 320L

Just walk away for 30 mins and have a drink or something - you are stressed and therefore not reading what is actually written.  I've done the same

We are here to help as best we can

heheh fine,am not stressed anymore, but what i am specifically asking,is i can't get it to work in an enclosure because none of the windows (freeware or softwares) are able to format/read the harddisk in order to format it.
if you can point out how to make that happen, because i can't.
thank you so much appreciated :)

OK.

First be aware that the disk you have removed is formatted with the Linux Ext3/4 file system and windows knows nothing about that.  If you want to read what is on the disk boot with a live Linux DVD, plug in your USB mounted drive and it should be there for you to see and copy from (how that is done is not part of this forum).

Normally you should be able to format a USB mounted disk from windows ('disk management' under 'computer management' in control panel) and I would assume that any version of windows from win7 to win10 should be able to do that with a 4TB drive (sorry we can't test for you because we don't use windows)

If you still are unable to do anything with the drive, download the Seagate disk tools utilities and use them to to set the disk back to factory conditions.
