Where do I get support for my DIR-822 HWC1 FW3.0 AC1200??
« on: July 05, 2016, 03:47:55 PM »

I can't find a forum that supports this model. Where should I look?

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

This model router isn't supported in the NA (USA) region so we don't have a forum for it. I think this router is a Middle East supported router.

Per the message subject:

Hardware C1
Firmware 3.0

I bought it at BestBuy in Canada. Here's a link http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/d-link-d-link-amplifi-wireless-ac1200-dual-band-router-dir-822/10395370.aspx?path=16d376cd7c8c54b74b2a75392d86fe55en02 to the product page so you can see which one it is.

Of course, listed in Canada. Ok.

Post about the problem and I'll find some place to put this thread. This model isn't marketed here south of Canada.  ::)

All official support is handled here: http://support.dlink.ca/ProductInfo.aspx?m=DIR-822

The problem is that it seems to drop connections occasionally.

Also, when our N PCs come out of sleep, they have a great deal of problems connecting to the router. Our one AC PC doesn't have this problem and the N PCs didn't have this problem with the DIR-825 the DIR-822 replaced.

There's really nothing on the CDN support page about this particular router. I wouldn't have bought it if I knew it was not also a USA model.

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?

What is the Mfr and model of the N PCs wireless adapter card?
If the AC supported PC is working, then could be a possible issue at the N PC adapter card.
Does this router support or have a feature called Smart Connect?

Wireless Configurations
Links>Wireless Installation Considerations and Managing Signal Congestion and Good Neighbour Policy
  • Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Ensure that different SSID names are used between each WiFi 2.4/5Ghz radios. Can be anything and not something that's already in use by any neighbouring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
  • What wireless modes are you using?
  • 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz routers: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz and single mode N or AC on 5Ghz?
  • Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
  • Try setting a manual Channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear. 13 for EU regions. Try channel 48 or 149 on 5Ghz.
  • What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto TPIK and AES.
  • What wireless devices do you have connected?
  • Ensure any devices with WiFi adapter drivers are updated.

    • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
    • DSL from Bell
    • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
    2Wire 2701HG-G - wired only - WiFi is off

What is the Mfr and model of the N PCs wireless adapter card?
Dell DW1525 PCIe Nano USB Adapter, HP 1101 printer

If the AC supported PC is working, then could be a possible issue at the N PC adapter card.
Don't think so because 3 units have had trouble.

Does this router support or have a feature called Smart Connect?
I searched the manual and didn't find that term

They are - everything was updated before switching to W10

I was trying to hilight my responses - sorry I messed up the color.

Let us know how single mode N and 20Mhz does.

Is the ISP modem running modem or bridge mode? Bridged is recommended...

I'm trying your suggestions now. Needs time to find out if there's an improvement.

I just remembered there is another question: right now, the ac PC cannot 'see' the n PCs but they can see the other way. I'm guessing that's a W10 configuration issue not the router?

Ya seems like a 10 issue if you can see going in the other direction.

Yeah. I sorted out the access problem - it was Windows, not the router.

I had to change wireless back from n to g/n as my HP1102w is b/g only.

Since I changed the channel width to 20mhz it appears that the problem of devices not being able to reconnect when coming out of sleep has gone away.

Also, I have only noticed one dropped connection and it reconnected by itself. PC and router are in the same room.

So progress, but not perfect on the g and n network. ac continues to work just fine.
