Good Morning!

I am finding myself regretting this purchase a little bit, as it is now just over a year past when I bought it, and this has started.

During usage, random reboots occur.  THis is just a reboot of the router itself.  The modem never reboots or drops a signal.  Pretty straight forward problem.  I have the following

~25 wireless devices (mixed between 2.4 and 5gh)

~5 wired devices

The 809L is on Firmware 1.08, hardware version A1, region is North America (washington state) ISP is Comcast.  I tried upgrading to the latest available firmware (1.09 B14) and had the same problems, so I went back to what it was on.

• What wireless modes are you using?

One reason for reboots maybe wireless interferences:

• Any 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz cordless house phones or WiFi APs near by that maybe causing interferences?
• Any other WiFi routers in the area that maybe causing interferences? Link> Use a WiFi Scanner to find out. How many?
• For routers with Smart Connect Technology , try disabling this feature and test. Under Wireless.

Thanks for the quick response.  No a factory reset has not been done.  Would that be your next course of action?

My modem is not provided by the ISP, but one I purchased.  It is a Motorola ARRIS Surfboard SB6183. 

Wireless modes are b/g/n mixed with wpa2 for the 2.4ghz, and a/n/ac for the 5.0ghz.

No other wifi routers in the building.  Closest is about 2 doors down from my apartment. 

Smart Connect has been disabled for a long time now.

Have you been able to calculate when these random reboots happen?

Yes I would do a factory reset and set up from scratch. Please set the router with SmartConnect enabled this time.

No, I haven't been able to narrow down when they happen.  I'll do a factory reset right now and set it up with Smart Connect enabled.

Well as I was writing a response, the router decided to restart randomly (again) so I took the opportunity to reset it completely, and rebuild it with the Smart Connect turned on.

I re-enabled logging, and am putting it back through its paces.  Will report back if it happens again.

After complete reset with specified settings, it worked for a while.  Here is a current log from the last restart just a minute ago:

Are you using a different IP address pool or default? I see 192.168.101.1 and .###

Yes I changed the default to 192.168.101.1

Would you mind doing a factory reset and then use the default IP address pool and lets try using 1 wired PC for now and turn OFF ALL other devices fully.
I'd like to see if the router still reboots with just 1 wired PC connected. Then lets try adding 1 wireless device.

What all do you have in devices that's connected to the router?
What browser did you use to upgrade the FW and manage the router?

I can do that, sure. 

I have 12 windows tablets, 10 cell phones, a domain controller (hardwired), my main machine (hardwired), 2 laptops (wifi), 2 laptops hardwired, a ps4 wifi, 4ktv wifi, roku wifi, chromecast wifi and my wifes laptop and cell phone both on wifi but not here at the moment.

Whats weird about this, is that I used to have a couple of virtual hosts as well, running about 40 hardwired virtual machines, and the router handled everything without issue.  Hell, my current setup was being handled without issue until a week or so ago...Im wondering if there is some hardware failure in the device...

Ill go ahead and shut down everything except for my main machine (hardwired) and my domain controller (hardwired) and do a full reset of the router again.

I use Chrome to manage the router, and have used it to upgrade/downgrade the FW.

All these are at home?
How many online at the same time?

Possible that you maybe hitting a max connection/device limit on this home class router. Not sure quite yet though. Starting with 1 wired PC for now and then adding 1 wireless I'm hoping will see a change in behavior.

Yeah its a few devices for sure.  Yeah all of these are at home.  They stream flash videos and advertisements 24/7.  I usually put about 13tb of data through the router per month.

I'd be super frustrated if there was a device limit on this router, as that was one of the motivating factors/justifications for spending $300 on a consumer class router.  Also, for it to start happening now as opposed to when I have had it even more loaded, is just...Odd.

Im spinning everything down right now in preparation of a reset.  Have to let all my production stuff wind down.

Ok, this helps explain more of your situation. The problem being 1, you have a lot of physical wifi devices, 2, there all connecting at the same time and probably maxing out the limits of the router, 3 each device is streaming bandwidth and data connections which is probably also maxing out the bandwidth connections limits on this router. This is a factor in any wifi configuration and home class router. We see this with business class configurations, like at a hotel? They have one or maybe two routers, however many wireless access points to cover range and quantity of devices connected and bandwidth. This helps spread the connections and bandwidth needs over the many APs. The bandwidth connections is not just 1 per device or applications, it ranges from few to many per device and application. Browsers can have hundreds going thru the router on just one PC.  Now your combining 29 other devices doing other things, ya, your probably going to be hammering there router and thus maybe a reason for the reboots. This would effect any home class router. 

I'm hoping that using 1 PC and 1 wireless device for a short duration test will see a change in this behavior.
