The only issue I've hit 2 times is when total movie files hit 649 - and recent movies stop showing - removing a sub folder then gets recent movis working.

Anyway as of today on 3 devices W7 / W10 and Android - I'm getting Unable to connect to server errors.
Checked 320 and I can access the folders/files through Windows and already scanned files (library) through Kodi but cannot add/update newly added

I know it's likely to be a Kodi issue but just in case has anyone had similar issues or possible tests/explanations please?

Hi Philip,

When something stops working the first question we always ask is 'what has changed both local and in the network.

Your 'Unable to connect to server errors' sound very much like a win 10 problem that has been mentioned in the IT press several times and could well be something caused by the win 10 'updates'.  You could try removing the win 10 box from the network and see what happens.  If that fixes the problem I'm not sure what to advise because we don't use windows.

Jeez I only get called Philip if I've done something wrong   ;)

Thanks for reply - When testing each device (W7/W10/Android) with Kodi running all other devices Kodi was shutdown so only one version of Kodi would be running.  As for "what has changed" I can almost guarantee that 1 movie was added to Unwatched folder and several TV Shows was added to TV Shows folder.  Updates from Microsoft were downloaded/installed on Tuesday and Kodi has been OK up until last night.  Movies/TV Shows almost added daily.

I'm almost 100% certain it's something to do with the other issue "recent movies" as I removed some temp downloaded videos in TV Shows (after watching them) and it now updates/scans OK

I've already questioned "recent movies" on Kodi forum

Basically, as already hinted at, if I have more that 649 movies in all my folders then recent movies does not function and now if I have too many videos in my TV Shows another issue appears .

I'm now thinking, as the responses on Kodi forum where non helpful, that it maybe an issue with the database phpMyAdmin/MySQL or Kodi but I'm no computer tech - I've had a quick look at my databases but wouldn't know where to check.

Thanks again for your reply.

   Sorry about that.

I was talking with my people in the service department today and one of the girls has a friend that had a similar problem, several computers and tablets all streaming from the NAS and a couple of the computers adding to it.  All was well until one of the win7 computers got 'updated' to win10.  All sorts of problems appeared, they couldn't add more files of any sort to the NAS, streaming - you didn't want to do that because of jerking and and other strange things.

To cut a long story short, she and her husband were asked to have a look at the problem.  A little head scratching resulted in the win10 computer being physically disconnected from the network which brought everything back to normal.  They scraped all the data from the win10 machine, formatted the disk, reinstalled win7 and set it to not try and download and install win10.  Their friends have been happy for the last three weeks.

I am not saying this is your problem and I'm not sure if you have physically removed your win10 machine from the network but if you haven't it is worth a try.

Sorry about that.

It's OK  just don't mention the cane or belt and I'll be fine  <<  joke

Anyway thanks again for the reply/feedback
The W10 is only 2 months old (one of those Acer Revo's) and is used most of the day just for browsing and stuff.  Later in the evening I'll switch on my PC Win7 and download, edit and stuff and update Kodi when all is done - later on the Win7 will be shutdown.  I mught use the W10 (Acer Revo) to stream to tv/home cinema and will start Kodi only then.  Or I'll power on the Android TV Box and utilise the Kodi on that to stream...  that' my basic day to day setup

In basic terms - the problem of "recent movies" (no more than 650 movies) started before I got the Acer Revo W10
Kodi is only powered on either the Acer Revo or Android TV Box when I want to stream (watch on bigger tv with surround sound) and on W7 to update the database etc

I would like to understand further of what you mean by "physically removed your win10 machine from the network" although as stated the blip started before I had W10

Thanks again Ivan you are a patient and very helpful human being and your replies are always appreciated

You may have hit a limit in the Kodi implementation you are using especially if the problem started before you got the win10 machine.

By physically removing from the network I mean 1) if it is a wired network remove the network cable and 2) if it is a wireless network switch off and unplug the power cable (with a laptop that means remove the battery).  The reasons for doing that is that modern machines always leave things like the network, keyboard and mouse live even when going into S3 state (think WoL, mouse movement etc.).  Win10 appears to poll the network even in the 'off' state for some reason known only to microsoft  and the three letter US agencies.
