DCS-960L password setup problem
« on: August 15, 2016, 08:59:41 AM »

I have set up a DCS-960L using Mydlink Lite on an iPhone 5 and also an iPad no problem until it asks me to define a password to protect the camera. Impossible to get past this step as whatever I do, I get "connection time out" message. Camera light is solid green. I can access the camera via the IP address but I need to get through the rest of the setup process to add it to my Mydlink account. I have reset the camera a few times and the password chosen is a total of 6 letters and numbers.

Any ideas anyone?

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your DCS? Look at the sticker behind or under the camera.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the DCSs web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

What Mfr and model is the main host router?
What wireless modes are you using?
What iOS version is loaded on the iPhone?
What version of the app is loaded?

Review the user manual on setup and use of the app and getting the camera connected.

What security modes do you use on the main host router? Try WPA2 and AES only...

What mode, AES or TPIK or mixed? Try single AES or TPIK and see.

Seems like something is working up to this point then stopping...

Encryption is WPA-WPA2-Personal (TKIP-AES) and I cannot refine it further.

Still no luck!

While setting up the camera, be sure that the iPhone remains on the main host SSID network and disable any WiFi Assistance options as well on the phone.

It remains on the host SSID and there are no WIFI assistance options.

Ok, hmm...maybe this could a a service issue with the mydlink service or something is going on with the camera in the setup process. I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

OK.

I sent a request on Friday and got a confirmation email.
I phoned today (German help desk) and was told that it had gone up a level and that they were dealing with it.

I will keep on at them and will let you know how I get on.

Many thanks

Andrew

Hi,

I phoned the German helpline but all the operators were busy so I hung up, and two minutes later they called me back! Wonderful.

He went through the same questions as you and decided the camera was faulty and that I should send it back.

Then, as a last effort we logged on to the the camera using the IP address, and under the Maintenance tab changed the password from blank to a new password. Then suddenly I could see the camera locally on my iPhone in mydlink Lite and under  "remote" I was able to add it to my mydlink account! Now everything works just fine.

I do not know what the problem was - I have a French language version of mydlink Lite so maybe there is a bug? Also my router does not have WPS so I did the setup manually. Maybe if you can set up with WPS it does not give this password problem, but I am just guessing.

Thanks for the help and for giving me the motivation to keep going!

It's a good camera by the way.

Regards

Andrew

One more question.

I am not able to detect the camera with a search of UPnP cameras on my DNR 322L Network Video Recorder and it does not show on the list of supported cameras.

Do I have to stick with the SD card or is there a work around?

Glad you were able to get the camera going. Seems odd that the PW was the cause.

Ya the DNR doesn't support this model camera. You might try to manually add a camera using it's IP address to see if the DNR can connect to it. If not, then SD will probably have to work until D-Link comes out with a FW update for the DNR. I would notify them if this as well.
