What is AP?

My internet speed at router only 100 mbps so even with powerline may be too slow for HD?

Since your recording from the camera to a local storage source, internet speed isn't a factor here.

No, i mean using a 2ndary wireless AP placed more closer to the camera so it can connect to a N mode wireless signal thus giving you HD modes

I still don't know what that means.  Another wireless router? I get the thing is plugged into wall socket and ethernet cable plugs into it. I do not understand what device goes between cable and camera.
I have Linksys EA4500. It is dual band. I use one band for N only and one for G only so I know which band I am on each band has a different name.

Do you have the 2.4Ghz set up for mixed mode or single mode G only. You can run mixed mode on 2.4Ghz radio on this router.

Yes it would entail using another wireless access point place more closer to the camera so the camera could connect wirelessly to this AP and use N mode to gain HD modes on the camera. ISP modem>Main host router<>PL near router<--------Power Line------------>PL unit in remote location<LAN wired to back of wireless AP at remote location><Camera connected to AP.

Accept you would need PLs between the main host router and 2ndary wireless AP if you wanted to go this route.

Or you can try an extender:

You'll need to enable N mode on the main host router as well.

Or a more powerful main host router would be another suggestion.

2 bands.  5 ghz band set to N only but it doesn't have much reach.  2.4 ghz band mixed but the most distant devices only have G speed. The router is in the southeast corner downstaira. The camera is in the window of the northwest corner. I know it is connected to 2.4 ghz band and assume it is cinnected to G not N at that distance. My phone on wifi in the same spot gets 20 mbps according to bandwidth speed app.

The terms you are using are unknown to me. It would be helpful to use specific words like router or repeater or ethernet cable or ethernet plug. I have no idea what an access point is wireless or otherwise. I do appreciate your help but I am not as well versed in jargon so have no idea how to actually set up what you describe. I do appreciate your patience and all the time you have devoted trying to help.

So it seems that the camera is at the most distant point from the main host router? If so, you'll need to either get a more powerful main host router, install a wireless access point near the camera while using the power line units to connect the access point to the main host router, or just use a wireless extender to help extend or get more signal from the main host router into the cameras area.

Wireless AP is just that, a stand alone wireless device that broadcasts just a wireless signal. It needs a physical LAN cable connection to a main host router to connect to internet services.

Extender or repeater is similar to the AP however doesn't need a physical LAN cable connected to the main host router, it connects wirelessly to the main host routers wifi radios using the SSID name and PW.

This shows you how to use this product in either, wireless extender mode, wired AP mode or a Bridge. You would need extender mode or wired AP mode. Again, this is a connection suggestion to help you get better signal to the camera located at the opposite end from the main host router were it seems the signal is low and not able to maintain a N mode speed connection, thus not giving you the ability to get HD modes on the camera which is giving you bad video capture files and viewing them.

Nice diagrams very clear now. However, if I use a powerline solution why can't I just run ethernet cable from powerline device in plug upstairs directly to camera skipping any need for a wireless ap?

You can do that too if you want too...
Placing a AP at the remote location would also help other devices with signal as well.

One last question. If I use that DAP as an extender will my upstairs devices already connected to wifi need to be reconnected to the Dap (since there is already enough signal for them) or will they automatically just connect to it?

I believe if you use extender mode, it will be broadcasting the same SSID name and PW from the main host routers wifi, so devices should connect automatically to the DAPs signal since it would be closer in proximity.

Also placement of the DAP in relation to the main host router would need to be taken into consideration if in extender mode. Not on the bleeding edge of the main host routers signal, rather closer to the main host router so it gets the best signal from the main host router thus providing best signal to the remote devices at the other end of the house...
