Hello,i cant seem to find the 842 model so i hope that the moderator will change it to the right subject ,i recently bought an DIR-842 model and although i can connect to the wifi i dont have internet connection ,although when i go from the modem to the pc directly it works.I think its because i need to "activate" the router through dlinkrouter.local/ but i cant connect to it(maybe because i dont use the router).Thank!

• What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.

• What region are you located?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations

• What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
• What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
• What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have? Link> Speed Testing Sites
• By-pass the main host router and check internet connection by connecting a wired LAN PC directly to the ISP modem to verify connection access and ISP speeds.
• Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended.
• Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values
• For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.
• If the ISP modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>Double NAT and How NAT Works. Call the ISP and ask to see if the ISP modem can be bridged. To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged. If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ. Also check the routers DHCP IP address maybe conflicting with the ISP modems IP address of 192.168.0.1. Check to see if this is the same on the ISP modem, and if modem can't be bridged, change the DIR router to 192.168.1.1 or .0.254.

If you connect your PC to the router via LAN cable, you should be able to configure the router using it's web page at 192.168.0.1...
Use IE11 or FF browsers for this...

I cant really acces the area where the modem is ,my router is DIR-842,i have a cable connection ,and i had a router before and evertything worked fine until it just stoped trasmiting

No i cant it says "This site can’t be reached" ,it can be because i dont use the router at the moment and i connected the modem directly to the pc.I cant use the internet with my router on thats why im doing it like this.

Ok, you'll need to lan wire connect your PC to the 842 router and then try to connect to the routers web page.

What IP address does your PC currently have when you connect to the ISP modem? 192.168.something or a ##.##.###.###?

You may need to get some in person help with your set up. Do you have a friend, neighbor or family member that can help you set this up?

i tried connecting it through router but i cant access the internt so the page wont load.My current ip address is 2a02:2f0e:519f:ffff::4f76:5515 in ipv6 and 79.118.85.21 in ipv4

Ok if you can connect to the routers web page then you can get to the routers configuration with your PC when it's connected to the router.

The configuration of the router needs to be connected in the following manor:
ISP modem>LAN cable from ISP modem to Yellow Internet connector behind 842 router<DIR-842>LAN cable connected from black LAN connectors, any one of the empty 4 connectors, to the LAN connector in back of the PC.

I would turn OFF The modem and router and PC when you connect this together. Then turn ON the modem and wait for 1 minute. Then turn ON the DIR-842 router and your PC. Check the IP address you get on the PC when your connected to the 842 router. It should be 192.168.0.Something. You should be able to log in to the 842s web page at 192.168.0.1.

i just realized i dont use any modems , aparently im more of an idiot that i thought the internt cable comes from a little box that connects the tv cable and the landine

You might contact your ISP provider and have them help you find the correct wire that you need to connect to the DIR router....

that was the wire i was using before and i checked with the provider if the internet is working

Let us know the results when you power off everything and set up the DIR router with the ISP services/modem and connect your PC to the DIR router.
You should have internet when this is configured as mentioned in my post.

Well thanks for the help man ,i really appreaciate it ,when i rebouted everything a chrome popped up by its self and asked me to start the setup for the router...
