I've just installed the DWA-192 on my Windows 10 Pro desktop. I have a wireless-1200ac router, and was expecting the adapter to connect at 867Mbps. Instead it connects at 400Mbps, which is kind of odd. Is this normal? Is there anything that I can do to get a connection speed of 867Mbps that I was expecting?

• What region are you located?

Should be getting the following:
– Dual Band Performance – Up to 600Mbps (2.4GHz) or 1300Mbps (5GHz)

Try a different PC.
Try Windows 7?
Is USB on PC HW USB 2.0 or 3.0 compliant?

What is the Mfr and model of main host router?
What wireless modes are you using on the main host router?

Driver is DWA-192_V1.03b04, latest Windows 10 driver on the support website.
Region is US.
USB 3.0
Bought the adapter to use with Windows 10, not interesting to me if it works better on Windows 7.
Router: Netgear Orbi, a wireless-1200ac router.

I'm talking connection speed, not throughput here. When I had a working Asus USB-AC56, it would connect at 867Mbps, and the throughput would be whatever was available. Got the DWA-192 to replace the Asus when it broke recently. I was expecting to see 867Mbps connection (or 433Mbps), 400Mbps speed surprised me, unpleasantly. My internet download is 200/10, and that seems to go full speed, but I'm wondering now what the top speed is going to be if I'm only getting a 400Mbps link/connection speed.

Or it may be normal that it connects at 400Mbps...doesn't seem normal, but it might be *smile*.

Those speeds I posted are max connection rates, no thru put. Thruput is totally different.

If you got connection rates around 867Mb with the Asus router and your not now with the NG router, then there maybe an issue with the NG router and the 192.

Was the 192 connecting at 867Mb with Windows 10 on the Asus router when it was working?

A little confusion here...I just got the DWA-192 today, never been connected to an Asus router. I was referring to a previous Asus wireless-ac network adapter (USB-AC56, as I said) that showed a connection speed of 867Mbps, and is now deceased. Probably shouldn't have mentioned that.

And yes, I do know the difference between connection speed and throughput, that's why I gave both (connection speed of 400Mbps and throughput of about 200Mbps). I was surprised that the connection speed was only 400Mbps, I was expecting 867Mbps.

Ok, I mis-understood the mention of the prior adapter.

The connection rates should be seen if the main host router supports those rates and should be seen by this 192 adapter. However configuration of the main host router maybe something that needs to be looked at. Some routers need to specify modes to achieve max connection rates and security modes need to be set for WPA2 and AES only, not mixed modes. Try setting single mode AC and WPA2/AES only one the main host router and see what it connects at. Try 2.4Ghz as well to see what it connects at there. Something to look at. Possible an incompatibility between the 192 drivers and the main host router wifi behaviors. Disable any smart connect wifi features as well to test.

It would be helpful if you could specify the model # of the NG router...

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.

The connection rate jumped up to 867Mbps on its own a while later. Not sure why it started at 400Mbps, or why it jumped up to where I expected it to be, 867Mbps.

The router is the Netgear Orbi, that's the name, not designated by number. It comes with a satellite, and there are dedicated 5GHz. radios for the backhaul in both the router and satellite (used in media bridge mode, full speed). As a result the wireless speed for clients connected to the satellite is about the same as those connected to the router. Which is twice as fast as the theoretical max for clients connected to a wireless extender. So it is roughly equivalent to having a router with a wire AP, except it's all wireless. Of course, nothing is as good as having a wired AP, since wireless is variable no matter how you slice it *smile*.

Anyways, it's a nice "wifi system", I've been waiting for this sort of thing to come out. I have my router in one end of my house, and the other end of the house is my living room. So the satellite unit is about in the middle of the house. Which gives me much better wireless in my living room without taking the hit from a wireless extender or powerline networking. Nice setup. Great wireless throughout my house now.

Interesting. Wondering if there is some handshake or break in time issue with it or between the 192 and the router. Other posters have had similar issues, posting that the speed was slow initially, then seemed to resolve itself.

I found a cheap one online last nite and will check this out myself this weekend. I wanted the death start since I first saw it when it was released so might as well get one. LOL. Glad its finally working for you. Enjoy.

OK, My 192 arrived this evening. I like the look of it. LOL.

I'll need some time to connect it up to a router that I can verify connection rate speeds with. I can't see rates on my current AP I'm using. 

I'll do some testing and let you know.

FYI, anyone experiencing connection problems on Windows after updating. Check the in box USB 3.0 cable that came with the 192 adapter. Could be faulty.
