DAP-1522 with DIR-825 5Ghz Issues (Update from 655)
« on: July 19, 2009, 12:51:10 PM »

***** UPDATE IN MY 2nd POST BELOW *****
I've been running these two together for a few days now and overall I'm happy with the improvement over my old 802.11g only network.

However I've been noticing strange connection readings (via the 655's Status->Wireless menu.)

I've moved the bridge around and found a place that gets me 88-100% connectivity but the data rates are rather weak - and I have yet to see anything above 108mbps being shown. I'll actually have it displaying 100% with 27-40mbps often according to the display. Most of the time it sits at 54mbps while having 90+% connection. Router is broadcasting 802.11n only @ 40Mhz.

Is 2.4Ghz limited to 108mbps? The router and bridge are ~20 ft away and seperated by 1 wall. All other wireless networks in my home have been removed and I pickup 2 neighbors 802.11g networks showing 1 bar each (per windows.)

Whats the deal?

you need to go 5ghz if you want anywhere near 300mbps. 2.4 won't get you there.

Returned my 655 and got a 825 Rev B1 w/Firmware 2.0

The thing will NOT connect to my 1522 @ 5Ghz. Setup via the WPS buttons simply fails/timesout and using the router to initiate the WPS does the same.

I don't get it. My 825 is set to G only for 2.4Ghz (as the 1522 kept connecting @ 2.4) and 5Ghz for N only. I have no other N devices in the home so this config is ideal for me anyway.

I don't see why it connects via 2.4 but not 5.

I just got a rev B DIR-825 to solve my MDNS problem with a pair of 1522s (but that's another story). I have the 1522 bridge operating just fine against the DIR-825 at 5Ghz. I did (and always do) manual configuration of the 825.

Yeah I got it connected by manual config. WPS seemed to default to whatever was on the 2.4Ghz band (even if its G only like I have it set) so I just pointed it towards the 5Ghz SSID and it connects fine. Connection quality (~30%) is the next battle I'm dealing with. I understand 5Ghz shortcomings when it comes to range but the thing is only 20 feet away going through one wall.

Oddly the connection between the 1522 and 825 gave me only 45-50% connection when the devices were 1 foot apart. I don't get it.
