Multitude of problems with my router
« on: July 21, 2009, 07:57:51 PM »

Ok, so about a week ago my router just stopped broadcasting a signal, when i look at the router's settings it says "Wireless Radio: Init Failed" to try to solve this i've attempted resetting the router, doing a 30/30/30 reboot, i've attempted to reflash the firmware, and a number of other things, the hardware version is A2 and the firmware is 1.21, the router also will not save any settings, when i try to update the firmware to anything else it simply stays at 1.21, is my router dead or is there anything i can do to fix it?

In most cases this is a hardware failure of the wireless mini PCI card.

If your router is out of warranty you can open the router with the two screws hidden under the rubber feet.
Then look whether the card is correctly placed in the socket. Sometimes it will loose contact.

This is for Rev A1/A2 only, all later revisions have their wireless chips on the PCB.

If still in warranty, call the D-Link support, they will RMA it.

Also look under the bottom label for a screw, it feels like there is an indent there that might be hiding one.  Make sure you look under all the rubber feet, there is usually one screw in each corner too.

You can lift the cover of the housing if you pull it at the back.
It is a little bit tricky but you don't need a hammer or gun.

There are only two screws hidden under the rubber feet of my A2.

Okay, so i got the case opened, now i'm faced with the task of what the insides should look like, everything seems in order, but what do i need to be checking for possible detachment?

The mini pci card:

Check if it is firmly in its socket.
