[Problem] Long NAT page freeze when loading under firefox
« on: July 22, 2009, 07:49:35 AM »

As the title mentioned, NAT page such as Virtual Server or Port Forwarding tend to load only half way when I do heavy torrent downloading (many connections), preventing me from access any button or link. It does not happen when I use IE8, but please look into the problem. I'm using the latest firmware 1.32NA.

This cannot be helped. You already give the answer to this phenomenon: you're keeping the router very busy with intense traffic (torrents really are a pest to router CPU's). It's just like your PC: once the CPU is at 95% useage the rest of tasks to perform will suffer delays. There is no way to reduce CPU usage in SOHO routers. If you want that, you need to upgrade to Cisco PRO gear.

And when you argue that only FF suffers from this and IE does not, I think you might be better off posting this at the Mozilla bug forum...

Sure, but in case like this, both parties tend to blame the other, so at least I was hoping that D-Link will look into it, to be sure which side is at fault here. I provided the information to be troubleshooted not to be used as a mean to disregard the problem.

From what I gathered, it's because instead of keeping the a separated NAT list from the connection list, this router meshes them together and consults the whole thing each time going to these page, causing something to hang.

As for another HW option, if I were to do it, I would use a small form factor PC to build a router using freeBSD router for example. Using a Cisco at home is kinda over the top and is outside of what I was asking for.

....not to mention Cisco routers require a certain level of comprehension of IOS, networking, the never-ending love of command line, use a good deal of energy, and are noisy (unlike the D-Link DIR series routers).

Trust me: when the issue occurs only in FF and never in IE it's not a router issue. If the issue would arise from the NAT table that you mention (which I doubt is really an issue at all, no one has seen evidence for this story), IE would suffer just as much...

Yeah, you partly get me to agree there. But typically, I trust Firefox more and IE is usually the one that has trouble rendering sites, especially the current version. Chrome has trouble viewing certain router sites, too. So when it does not work on firefox, it really strikes me. I guess this has something to do with IE and Firefox's different ways to handle table, too. But guesses are guesses and need ppl with more expertise to look into.

If you want a pro to have a look you'd be better off in a browser forum.
