Can't keep stable Remote Desktop Connection since 1.31
« on: July 22, 2009, 10:57:07 AM »

Ok, Here goes:

I had a dir-655 running 1.11 for month.  To connect to work, I VPN into a cisco VPN and then remote desktop into my work machine.  Never had an issue.

Then I upgraded to 1.31 and My remote desktop connection would drop every couple of minutes, although my VPN connection would stay connected.  Due to other problems with the 655, I bought a dir 825 running 1.01 firmware.  I then set up that router to the internet, connected the 655 as a access point.  The 655 is my N access point, the 825 is running 5 Ghz N and 2.4 G. The 655 is running channels 1/5 and the 825 is running on 11.  They are other sides of the room from eachother.

So I noticed at one point recently that I was getting disconnected again.  I also noticed I was on the 655.  I then switched to the 825 on 5ghz never got disconnected again.  Every time I connect to the 655, I get disconnected every couple of minutes without exception.  However, when I am on the G or N(2ghz) on the 825, never get disconnected, not once.

Any idea why my 655 can't give me a solid remote desktop connection?  Its starting to not make sense.  I have tried changing the channels, etc.  I am not losing chat or my VPN, just remote desktop.  I have SPI, Qos off.

Well the 1st thing I'd do is upgrade to 1.32NA, maybe some underling problem with UPNP, wireless clients, portforwarding, Application rules. You have been fallowing how unstable fw1.31 is.
You say the 655 is your "N" access point and @ the end of your 2nd paragraph you said when your on the G and N you never get disconnected. Are you running in "mixed mode" G&N? I hear it's more stable to run in mixed mode.
Also you could try Symantec PcAnywhere, I like it and never could get Windows Remote Desktop stable.

Firmware: 1.32NA
Date: 07/20/09

1. Fix when disable DHCP server and enable DHCP server, LAN PC cannot get IP.
2. Fix using wireless client to configure Access Control rules, cause DUT reboot.
3. Fix UPnP bug.
4. Disable CAPTCHA by default
5. Fixed QRS issue, can't set up wireless setting.
6. Fixed Router DHCP IP range issue.
7. Fixed WPS UI Show Error warning message.
8. Fix potential security leak with CAPTCHA.
9. Fix USB LED issue about Shareport.
10.Fix Shareport HP932C with Wins 7 issue
11. Fix if set more than 8 Trigger or Firewall port in Application Rules.  It will show Warning message.
12. Fix bug: When QRS set wan type of rt to DHCP, the rt will not set Primary and second DNS.

Note: This firmware does not allow downgrading to pre-1.3x.

that was a typo, I meant to say that when I am on G and N(5ghz) on the 825, I never get disconnected.
