SO here is my problem.

I have a wireless modem/router that sits to far from my PC. This modem cannot be moved because I am not the owner of the network, my roommate is. I purchased a brand   new D-Link DIR-842 and I want to set it up as an AP. The problem is I cannot convince my roommate to let me run an Ethernet cable. I was hoping to set up a WAN connection between the 2 routers and then run a cable to my computer from there. I cannot figure out how to set this up and I am told it is possible. Did I get the wrong router?

• What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.

Too bad that your roomie wont let you run a lan cable or this would work:

How ever this router doesn't support wireless bridge mode. If it did then you can wirelessly connect the router to the main host routers wifi then you could connect your PC to the back of the 842, however since it doesn't support wireless bridge mode, I recommend that you return this model router and find a wireless bridge or a router that supports wireless bridge mode:

Listed here are a few D-link products that support bridge mode. I have the 865L, 868L and 880L and all work well in wireless bridge mode.
