Setting up a QNAP Nas Server with the DIR-655
« on: November 19, 2007, 09:20:55 PM »

Hi Guys.
This might be a shot in the dark, but would anyone know of a "walk through" set-up for these two. I've looked on this forum and also on the QNAP forum, but can't get a match for the two.
I can get the NAS working on my home network, but can't access via the net, so I am assuming it's a possible port redirection problem.
I'm not too bad finding my round but I'm not a network genius either.
I live in Hong Kong, but apart from Firmware versions, I don't think there should be much difference.
Grateful for any advice or I'll be hitting the bottle fairly soon..ha

On the QNAP forum, the sticky post "Configure DDNS and forward the service ports on NAT router" and the other thread you replied to don't help?

What method are you trying to use to reach the NAS? FTP??

Hi Guys.
I have tried the QNAP Sticky. I registered with DynDNS and tried to set it up on the QNAP. But I don't get the same set up pages as in the pictures in the sticky.
For instance, I don't get the "www.dyndns.org" option in my QNAP DDNS Server settings box.
So I have been choosing "members.dyndns.org" option but I get a message saying DDNS failed.

I've been going through this forum and others, but to be honest everything I have tried has either failed, or there are settings or "terminology" on the forums which don't appear on my D-Link set up or the QNAP.

I had trouble with the first 655 I bought, it kept re-booting every 6 mins. I sent it back to the distibutor here and they replaced it with a new one.
