Connection Speed DIR-825 nd DWA-556 only at 54mbps

I have the DIR-825 in dual mode with the 5ghz in N only and at 40 mhz protected in wpa2.

But my DWA-556 does not pick up te 5ghz signal, it picks up the 2ghz only, maxing out at 54mbps. I want to pick up the 5ghz signal,  how do I do that?

I live downtown so there is 20+ other signals that the 556 picks up.  My laptops need the g network, so closing that off is out of the question.

Any help would be appreciated.
