Cannot delete file
« on: July 26, 2009, 03:06:01 PM »

I recently bought a DNS-321 and I've come across a problem yesterday. I was making a copy of a file from a DVD to the NAS, and while it was copying, the dvd drive had a problem and the copy failed.

Problem is that now, the file it was copying can no longer be deleted. It's stuck there. I can rename it but I cannot move to the trash.

I'm using Mac OS X and it keeps telling me that it cannot be deleted because I do not have the sufficient privileges.

Anyone came across this issue and knows how to fix it? I know I could always backup the stuff and format it, but this seems like a lot of trouble to get rid of one file.

Thanks

Have you tried resetting the unit to factory defaults and try deleting the file?

Yes, I tried twice to reset all settings and creating new users with the R/W permission but the file still cannot be deleted. I can move it or rename it, but not delete it.

Have you tried a PC as well? You may also want to try setting up a user and give the user permissions to the folder containing the file and try it.

Well I booted WinXp through Parallels and it only warn me that the file was read only and I confirm that I wanted to delete and it worked. Have no idea why OS X was that fussy about deleting it.

Thanks

I had the exact same problem transferring files from Ubuntu from time to time.
However, instead of booting into Windows, I end up using SSH (fun_plug installed) to manually delete the file.

This was with the v1.01 firmware on SMB.  Currently testing 1.03 beta build 9 and NFS.
