Shareport on Win7RC
« on: July 27, 2009, 09:16:14 AM »

Hi All,

I have been having issues getting Shareport utility to install and run on windows 7 64 bit. I have tried version 0.94, 1.00 and 1.14 and in each case, the utility installs. However, trying to run the utility i get an error message saying that the Installation was incomplete and should re-install.

I have disabled the firewall, antivirus, windows defender in an attempt to install, but still run into the same problems.
I can get the newer shareport software to install (1.10) and run, but obviously this isn't seeing the router. I am reluctant to upgrade the firmware at the minute as i have read about the shareport issues on firmwares 1.3x

Router: DIR-655 with 1.21EU firmware
PC: Dell studio 15, P8600 processor 4GB Ram with Windows 7RC build 7100

If anyone has any suggestions, i will be more than grateful.

Many thanks
Chris

Ok,

Might have solved this, or it might be a co-incidence.

I had hardware virtualisation turned on. Switched it off, and the utility installed, did not give me an error message and was able to connect to the router. I have since turned hardware virtualisation back on, and it still able to connect. Maybe the virtualisation was conflicting with the install routine and preventing the drivers from installing properly?

No idea, but glad it is installed and working.

Incidently, if you are running zonealarm, the router/home network is put into the internet  zone by default. Putting it into the trusted zone allows it to connect.
