Author Topic: Wireless DPR-1260 and Belkin Wireless G router - no wireless connection  (Read 11242 times)

Recently I bought a wireless DPR-1260 print server and I'm trying to connect it to a Belkin wireless g router (my wireless network itself is running perfectly). The firmware on my printserver is 1.21. Unlike many other people I'm perfectly able to see and access the printserver using a cable connection, but so far I had no luck to get it to work wireless.
I'm running the network with WPA-PSK and AES encryption. I tried every imaginable combination of settings in my print server. In contrast to the manual (v1.3) printed and online where it says that there is a place to set up the cipher mode - THERE IS NO SETTING for the cipher mode on this print server. On the status page I can see that the print server can see my network and it also recognizes the right channel, but the wireless status always says 'Searching for AP'.
I'm wondering anyway, why I have to make all those settings. When I want to connect a computer to a wireless network, the only thing I have to tell it is the name of the network and the network key. Everything else is configured automatically. Why isn't this possible in this print server?

Does anyone has an idea what might help here?
Thanks.

Hi,

I'm facing a similar issue. My home router is DI-524. My DPR1260 is connected to this router wirelessly and my HP PSC1315 is connected to USB1 port of DPR1260. This arrangement works properly when I keep the network open (no encryption). As soon as I try to secure the network (WPA2-PSK) with the same key on both DI-524 and DPR1260, the DPR1260 gets disconnected. The problem seems to be that both DI-524 and DPR1260 only listen to a request with PSK but do not send the same to each other (this is only my guess). I had to resort to keeping my network open and securing it with ACL only.

Try http://192.168.0.2/setup_wl.html where 192.168.0.2 is the IP for your DPR-1260. There you can find all the settings you ask for. I have firmware 1.24 and this print server is very easy to set up, no problem. I use Mandriva64 2009.1 om all my laptops. My wife has one with Vista32 and it works also.
To set up the printers: the trick is to observe the port that DPR-1260 assigns to each printer. Access the printer via ip and subsequent port. Then your computer will suck in the drivers from Internet.
Some printers, like the HP LaserJet P1005 requires a firmware installation at every startup. Therefore it normally won't work. It will work if you start it attached directly to a computer, lets it get the firmware and then put the USB over to the print server. It will work till you put the power of. Thousands has this problem but HP is reluctant to serve their customers with appropriate firmwares. I know because I have asked them several times. I also question why this kind of printers are made at all.
So called windows printers can cause problems due to MS OS-dependencies. Stand alone printers works flawlessly. Beware of odd printers.
Conclusion: DPR-1260 works very well if it is set up correctly (very easy actually) and has printers with normal firmwares.

How can I watch the DPR-1260 trying to connect to my wireless network from my laptop?  My DPR-1260 works great paired with my Linksys WRT54G2, but ONLY on the wire or with an open network.  I have a static IP configuration.  Once I go to wireless, slap on WPA/TKIP, I cannot even see the DPR-1260 because it is not connecting to the WRT54G2.  This should not be this hard.  When I settle down, I will try updating the firmware.

Update....I upgraded my firmware from 1.00 (stock out of the box) to 1.24.  The connected failed with TKIP+AES on WPA2 Personal, but was successful with AES on WPS2 Personal.
