Acceptable transfer rate?

I was transferring a 700MB file from my macbookpro to an external HD on an ubuntu desktop. Connected on 5Ghz, set to "N Only", with all filtering options disabled. The MBP (using "MenuMeters"), displayed speeds between 7.5-8.6MBps. I have tried to post pictures but it says "An Error Has Occurred!
The attachments upload directory is not writable. Your attachment or avatar cannot be saved." oh well

Well as the title says, is this an acceptable WLAN to LAN transfer rate?
I was expecting something much, MUCH faster.

Is that in megabytes (MB) or megabits (Mb)?
Because 8MB makes into 64Mb.
And the top speed for N is 300Mbps, but depending on adapters, it's down to 120 to 150Mbps.

7.5-8.6MB/s (if in fact you measured in MB/s) is actually fairly good throughput for a consumer N router.  Take a look at the charts on www.smallnetbuilder.com and you'll see that 10MB/s is about the best out there at the moment in 5Ghz.  Remember Smallnetbuilder measures real world use.  The 300Mb/s you read on the box is lab tested in optimal conditions (basically worthless numbers).

here are the pictures.

I have tried on my mac, ubuntu, and windoze to set the 5GHz bandwidth to Auto 20/40 but its a no go.
Also tried setting static channel, didnt help.
