Adding another drive with data
« on: August 04, 2009, 11:19:29 AM »

I am trying to install another disk, with data, into my DNS 321 that already has a 1TB Seagate drive. When I log onto the Web-GUI I get the ominous statement about formatting the new drive. Obviously I skip that part! ;D However, the drive is not see on the network. The drive contains a lot of programs and a website I've been hacking at for some time so it is critical I do not loose the data. I've removed it for now to idiot-proof the process but would like to get access to the data soon. I am working on a laptop network (no desktops) and this is currently the only way I can gain access to the drive.

Also, I know this link, http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=4765.0 is supposed to answer the question but it didn't work on my DNS-321.

Thanks in advance for your help.

WHere did this drive with data on it COME from? If it isn't already formatted in Ext2/3 then the DNS-321 has no way of reading the data.

Well, that answers my question then, because the drive came from my old desktop and is NTFS formatted. Guess I gotta fork out some more money to buy an external drive enclosure for to get access to the data and send it to the 1TB drive.

Thanks for the quick reply.
