DGL-4500 Questions
« on: August 04, 2009, 12:16:44 PM »

Hello Everyone,

About 2 weeks ago I purchased this router, and everything was working fine until the last couple of days when I experienced the first issue. I currently have 2 PCs wired into the router and 3 PCs connected wireless. I have the 1.15 firmware but I am not sure if I have the A1 or A2 (any ideas on how to find this?)

The issue is when playing online games like counter strike or left 4 dead. A good example is, I (wireless) will create a game in L4D and my little brother (wired) will be able to connect without any issues. However my other brother (also wired) is only able to connect to the lobby but when the game starts we drops out. He does not lose connection to the internet but he can not join the same game as me. Also it only seems to be his computer that has these issues as the other wired PC is able to connect without any issues.

We have removed gamefuel and that seemed to fix the problem but only for a moment.

If anyone can suggest any possible setting recommendations that could solve this that would be great.

PS. I would like to avoid moving to 1.20 FW as I have read multiple threads on this forum with very frustrated people using that firmware.

Thanks in advance.

You can tell if it is either A1 or A2 on the router itself if you look at the router information on the router itself. And you may want to try and see if your little brother can host the game to see if the same issues happen.

Just took a look and it is a A1. The issue works both ways on Counter Strike. If he joins before me I can not join and vise versa.

As for L4D, if he creates the game, again it all looks good in the lobby until the game starts where he gets booted but I remain in the game.

I have not experience any issues that most people on this forum have been, but who knows down the road.

Again any suggestions on how we can all play together would be great.

EDIT. I just discovered that my brother updated to 1.15 from 1.02 and we are able to revert back to original firmware. Would that solve the problem?

Ironvathe,

Log into the router and set:
- both NAT Endpoint Filtering for UDP and TCP to Endpoint Independent
- disable SPI
- Make sure UPnP is checked

What DNS servers are you using?

That's the same solution that worked for me with my DGL-4300 and UT3 when Epic screwed up something with the 1.2 patch.

Well we tried to play last night and it turns out the issue is back. I wonder if going back to 1.02 will help. Again any info would be great.

Hey before you flash or do anything to any piece of equipment you should attempt to learn as much information about it before you do anything to it.  In this case once you flash to anything higher than 1.02 you cannot roll back period.  If you pass 1.02 then the next threshold is 1.16b and if you go to 1.2x then you're screwed.

I was unaware of that and the only reason I keep bringing it up is because when I log into the settings it gives me the option to revert.

I did make a break through though. Seems if we want to play together we need to restart the router and join a game. Kind of odd...

Ironvathe what firmware version are you using?  If you've already flashed to 1.20 then you should flash to 1.21 it runs better than 1.20 and will let more than one person log onto css at a time.  I had the same problem with mine and had to go to 1.21 because 1.20 wouldn't let my son and I play on the same server at the same time.

I am running 1.15 on A1 hardware. I am afraid to move to 1.21 because of the issues everyone is having. Does 1.21 have the same restarting issues?

For some users on 1.21 yes the unit reboots every so and so days.. Some have seen lock ups. You can try 1.16 I've had some success with that version along with others.

Remember to reset the router to factory default after the upgrade and build the config from scratch. Don't load a previously saved config.
