Nor is their any mention of such a thing.

Is there a list of problems to address? The link you provided is a list a feature requests. So over all stability. I'm just looking for additional info to provide the engineers if any issues are being overlooked.

I have an issue that I reported to D-Link Tech Support that has never been followed up on:

I have a problem with the 750 clipping off the 1st second or two of each audio track I play... back when I had the DSM-520, I had a similar issue that I also reported that was never corrected.

From what I can see, it looks like the 750 (and perhaps the 520) mutes the audio outputs in between each track... when a new track plays, the audio output is not un-muted quickly enough to prevent some of the song from being clipped off.  This should not be the normal behavior for audio equipment... the audio output should be un-muted at all times even if the 750 is not playing anything.

I have a Denon AVR987 receiver that shows the number of active channels playing on a device connected via HDMI/Coax/Optical digital inputs... when using the DSM 750, one can clearly see that the device is muting the output in between songs (the indicators on the Denon turn off).

Perhaps D-Link can get Redsonic, or whoever is developing the firmware, to fix this problem on BOTH the 520 and 750 as this problem exists on each model.

As far as things not working well . . .  When using Rhapsody on the DSM-750, I am unable to play tracks from my library until AFTER I select a Rhapsody radio station.  Once I let the radio station play for 5-10 seconds, then I can go back to my library and select a track and play it.  If I just go to Rhapsody and then select a track from my library I get "Unable to open the file."  Tried 9 different tracks (from different artists) and had the same result.  This was not a problem on the DSM-320.

Also, when listening to an artist, the next track is listed as next station.  I'm not listening to a station, so it should say next track.

The repeat buttons and shuffile buttons do nothing.  Repeat and shuffle were available on the DSM-320.

I while back, I telephoned D-Link to mention that in the pre-release versions of Windows 7, mkvs can be made to work on Media Center Extenders (by installing DivX's "Windows 7 Technology Preview"). I asked why this doesn't work with the DSM-750, and they said that they were aware of the issue and that they would be addressing it in the next firmware update. ECF, could you please confirm that this is still the case?

MCE in Win7 Does not even list MKV video files. I am not familiar with the preview you mention or the conversation you had with an agent so I cannot speak on it. Can you provide more detail and does this currently work on other extenders?

It seems the number one issue in this forum these days is that of mkv playback. This is also very much an issue for me, and I have involved myself in some of the posts. Well, I've got some interesting news. Here's the story, start to finish.

I only use this device as a Media Center Extender. I was of course very disappointed when firmware 1.02 came out, and mkvs still did not work in MCE mode. I repeatedly complained (both on this forum, and on the phone), and was always told that there is a limitation in the Media Center Extender specs that prevents mkvs from working. Frankly, I never really believed this because there's no reason that mp4 files would work (which they do) and not mkvs, since both containers typically contain the same audio/video streams and neither is natively supported by Vista.

When Windows 7 beta (and then RC) was released, I installed each on my computer and did some testing. Of course, I was sorely disappointed that mkv is still not natively supported by Windows. But, we mkv users now have a White Knight to help fight our battles: DivX. Their new "DivX Plus" setup uses mkv as a container. Now, with Vista, when you install DivX it installs an mkv splitter, and H.264 + AAC codecs. Windows 7 is a different story, however, because it already has H.264 + AAC codecs (and because it uses Media Foundation instead of DirectShow, which I won't get into).

So when the Windows 7 RC came out, DivX released a "Windows 7 technical preview" at labs.divx.com. Install it, they said, and you will be able to play mkv files in Windows Media Player, Windows Media Center, and - get this - Media Center Extenders.

The forum there immediately began filling up with success/failure stories from XboX 360 users, which is clearly the most common Extender. I tried it myself with the DSM-750, and one of two things happened - either the video would play but it was clearly being transcoded (which is an issue that Windows 7 is having with other file types, including avi), or it would play audio with a black screen. I posted a few times on their forum, and it was eventually determined that D-Link needs to fix something on their end to get this working.

I spent awhile on the phone with D-Link - first with a Level 1 support agent, then with a Level 2 support agent, then a Level 3 product specialist. Finally what I was told is thatthey are aware of this problem and will be addressing it in their next firmware update.

So, the obvious questions:
-When does this firmware update come out?
-Will it make mkv files work with Vista in Media Center Extender mode?

As for other extenders, it does work with the 360 (since it's a "software" extender, codecs/splitters can be added so mkv support can be made to happen), and it doesn't work with any others, since none of the others support mkv in the first place. The 750 is unique, it's the only one that's actually (supposed to be) able to play mkv.

OK I loaded it on my Windows7 Machine and it worked fine. I was able to play my MKV videos on the the DSM-750 connected in extender mode to my Win7 machine.

Just to confirm that it's not transcoding - does the quality look perfect on the TV, or is it blockier than it is on the computer?

I don't have Win7 installed anywhere at the moment, I'll report back near the end of the month once I've upgraded my machines.

I did not have a chance to test it on a HD television but it looked good on the TV I did not notice any difference in extender mode from playing it in media lounge mode.

How can I get 4:3 content to play widescreen in media lounge mode without using Zoom 1 & 2 on the TV? when I do this the heads are chopped off
