received deautentification??
« on: August 07, 2009, 07:30:19 AM »

I recently bought and installed DWA140 and DIR655. Updated the DIR655 driver from the D-link site. Although the signal is excellent, I regularly got disconnected. And most of the time, the system reconnects after a few seconds, but not always.

Since I work from home on the server at the office (so every time I get disconnected, I have to start the log-in procedure again) it's quite irritating.

In the Europe-sector, Lizzi555 told me:
Quote
Uninstall the d-Link driver for DWA-140 and use the latest Ralink driver:

http://www.ralinktech.com.tw/data/drivers/IS_AP_STA_RT2870_D-1.4.5.0_VA-2.3.5.0_W7-3.0.2.0_RU-3.1.0.0_AU-3.0.2.0_071509_1.5.1.0_Free.exe

The chipset manufacturers driver works best with this stick.

In the meantime, I installed SP2 and the abovementioned driver for the DWA140. And the problem seems largely solved. I've been working all day and got kicked out once.

And this, I'd like to solve as well.

Some more info:

During all this day, I'm working on the PC and downstairs, the laptop is running as well. When I got kicked out, the laptop wasn't.
In the log, I found:
Wireless system with MAC address (the MAC adres of my PC) disconnected for reason: Received Deauthentication.

So, for some reason, something is actively sending a signal to cut off??

Who's going to help me solve this?

hmm.. that is interesting.. you do have the latest firmware right? the 1.32?

DWA-140... just a wonder, how is that? do you like it besides the disconnection? im either thinking of buying that or the DWA-160.

They are saying that the DWA-140 and DWA-160 are both the same with signal quality but the only difference is that the dwa-160 is a dual band... other then that both are the same. is that true?

so going to your problem, you updated the driver.. which is helps you a lot but you still get dc...

all i can think of now is that the router is disconnecting.

wait when you said you got dc from the pc downstairs, thats using the dwa-140 right? and your laptop is using the regular internal wifi?

Besides? As far as I am concerned, that's all it's got to do.

My thinking was just the other way around: The router got a deauthentification from the PC using the 140, the laptop (internal wificard) stayed up. So I gather the problem is not with the router (hence I haven't updated the firmware any further). That's why I guess the issue must be either with the 140 or with the software running on the PC (some setting maybe).

Could be something with the power savings in Vista that powers down the nic after a certain amount fo time.

Could that be the case even when I'm working on the computer and have several internet pages open (one of which is streaming audio)?
And if so, how do I see and change that setting?

Thanks in advance

DWA-160 Rev A has a different chipset from DWA-140. It is Atheros 9000 series. Rev B is also Ralink Chipset. Both are dual band.

If you are actively using the system - then the power savings settings should not be in effect.  The Power Option settings are in the control panel.
