Happy new customer
« on: November 30, 2007, 09:52:35 AM »

I just wanted to say hi and let any D-Link folks listening how happy I am with my DIR-655 purchase.  I was using a Linksys WRVS4400N with a variety of clients (Broadcom-based g, Intel-based n, and Linksys-based n adapters) and was constantly getting disconnected, DHCP problems, performance issues, etc.

Every since switching to the DIR-655 everything is working great.

I'm sure I'll run into challenges as I start exercising the hardware, but for an out-of-the-box experience, the DIR-655 has been great!

Good to hear that. Could you please share your experience with us? What is the current firmware version? How many computers are in your home?  How many are wired, and how many are wireless?

As I mentioned in my initial post, I was having no end of trouble with my previous setup.  Once I switched to the DIR-655 as my primary router/WAP, everything just worked out of the box.

For example, one of the most annoying things that happened with my old router was that when my laptops woke from sleep, I could not re-acquire an IP address from the router.  I could (1) define a static IP, but that was annoying because I would have to reset the adapter properties whenever I took the laptop outside my home.  I could (2) reboot the router, but that was just plain annoying.  Once I installed the DIR-655 (without changing anything on the laptops), I quickly and easily re-acquire an IP address when the laptop wakes from sleep.

My home network has four devices connected to the DIR-655.  They are listed below.
+ Straight data access from the three PC's fine after 48 hours, but time will tell.
+ Vonage was just installed today, so I can't say how well that is working.  I have dial-tone, but I haven't had any long conversations while trying to surf the web.

I'll check back in with this thread in a couple weeks and let you know how it is going.

Thanks,
David

Everyone seems to have a rebooting problem with the 655....  Let us know if that ever happens to you.

I have been running mine since Oct 8, 2007. Not one self- reboot.  I purchased from Best Buy along with 2 552's and a 652.  Have had no issues and have good connections to the cards. Running latest firmware and drivers on all.  Only reboots have been when updating firmware or making a change in configuration.

It's been 36 hours since the last (owner-initiated) restart.  No mystery restarts.

The router has been handling surfing, internet & intranet audio streaming and internet & intranet video streaming over wireless and VoIP traffic on a wired port.  My parameters are:

* Non-broadcasting SSID
* Mixed G/N
* WPA2-Personal only (AES)
* Reserved DHCP leases for all network devices except Vonage adapter (static IP), 4-devices total
* QoS and WISH rules defined
* Email settings set
* Everything else is default

Now, if I could just get a driver for my D-Link DWA-552 that does not lock up my media center PC, I would be EXTREMELY happy.

OctoberPrice78 - AT&T (California)

davevt31 - I'm having frequent system lock-ups directly attributable to the DWA-552 and associated driver software (i.e., when the card is enabled, my PC locks up.  When the card is disabled or not installed, my PC runs fine).  What flavor of Windows are you running with your DWA-552's (XP, Vista Ultimate, Vista Home Premium, etc)?  Did you do anything different than the default install?  What version of the driver are you running?  If you are willing, would you please reply on the following thread?  --> http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=653.0

Thanks
