WEP encryption causing connection error
« on: August 10, 2009, 05:54:39 PM »

Ok, old router crapped out, got DIR-655 as replacement.  Everything works fine UNTIL I require a WEP/WAP key for wireless access, when no key is required or use mac address filtering it all works fine though.  The odd thing is I run dual boot on my mac, so mac osx and xp on my computer work flawlessly.  However, 2 of the guys computers give connection errors, one using osx and the other on vista.  I rebooted the router after changes, tried a few keys and different types (128bit, 64bit, etc) and it doesn't seem to solve the issue.  They simply get "connection error" messages after attempting to connect, not even limited connectivity or anything.  I'm stumped, any ideas?

I would love to simply throw the mac filter up but due to the fact its a bachelor pad we have computers and gaming systems coming in and out all the time, and being I am the only tech savvy one in the house it presents a problem.

Have you looked in the logs?

Should show connection attempts and why they were rejected.

Did you reuse the SSID name when creating your network?

I breezed the logs briefly, was running behind so didn't have time to find their errors, will post the log once I get home from work.

Kept same SSID

P.S. Thanks for the prompt responses

Change the SSID or remove the network profiles on all effected machines.
