Slow internal connections ssh / mysql

Just started using the dir-655.  Everything is working well, except I'm having a wierd problem with internal LAN connections. 

I have a linux server and a win xp machine both on gb lan.  When I try to ssh into the linux machine (straight to the IP) from the win machine, it takes 10 seconds. It took less than 1 second with the older router!  Same thing happens when connecting to mysql from win to linux.

However, actual data transfer is pretty good. I downloaded a 1.4GB file from linux to win over http and got 48MB/s!  Samba is also pretty quick.

Any help would be hugely appreciated.
