Net Connection Issues
« on: August 13, 2009, 04:23:23 PM »

I am having some connection issues I am hoping someone can help me with.

I just moved.  My computer used to be plugged in directly through my router, but my friend gave me an old computer of hers which doesn't use a wireless connection so I have her computer directly plugged into the Netgear Router and planned on using my wireless card to connect to the net on the computer in my room.

Got everything set up, wireless was working on my computer, and then the next day I started having issues.  The both computers were being assigned the same IP address and causing issues, so I released and renewed the IP on my wireless...and then after a little while my internet stopped working properly.

Windows Connection Manager shows that it is connected, but my browsers won't pull up any websites in any browser (tried Firefox, Explorer, and Safari).  I can Ping the router, but I can't ping any actual websites like www.google.com or www.yahoo.com .  When I pull up the IP info in the Command Window the DNS, Router IP, etc all match up with the info that is supplied on the computer that is working and plugged into the router by a cable.

When I tried changing the Configuration Utility to the D-Link provided one, at first it listed the status up top as Disconnected, regardless of whether or not I try to connect with my WEP Key.  Now it will not list my connection name in the window and refuses to link up.  I can't get into the settings to change it back to the Windows Connection Manager either.

The server info is all setup to be assigned by the router instead of being assigned by me.  Let me know if there's any other info that might help.

Thanks,

Oh, and I also tried completely reinstalling Windows XP and I'm still having the same problems.

Thanks,
