Incorrect Volume Size in RAID 5
« on: August 14, 2009, 08:05:37 AM »

Just got the system yesterday.

I am also using 4 x ST31500341AS, however already with the updated CC firmware
I updated the 343 to 1.02 firmware.

The first time I tried to configure the system as RAID 5, I had the same "stuck at 94%" issue others have reported.  After I rebooted, I reconfigured them again and all seemed to work.

However, my Volume1 is only 94GB in size.  The Status screen reports that all 4 drives are present and are 1500GB in size, but the total usable space is 87GB.  I have reformatted, reconfigured, pulled the drives and wiped them--nothing.  I have read through many of the posts here and haven't seen anything--but will continue to look.

I have a NAS with 6TB of disk--and less usable space than my iPod.

Any thoughts?

Are these brand new 1.5tb drives? No existing partitions?

yeah--brand spanking new.

Got it working last night by using the (still) beta firmware 1.2a.  Not happy about it still being beta code--but at least if finally worked.

If you were using FW 1.02, then it is a known issue. FW 1.02a and 1.03 (BETA) have the fix for anything over 1TB in RAID configuration.

The only way to get it working on FW 1.02 is to create a custom configuration and put your size as 4TB and the rest will go into JBOD. And you will end up with Volume_1 (4TB RAID 5) and Volume_2 (600GB JBOD).
