Slower than normal transfer speeds
« on: November 22, 2017, 12:44:17 AM »

Hi, when i first bought the DNS 320l i was able to achieve data transfer rates between 80 and 100MB/s easily, as i am connected through a gigabit switch to my computer, and recently the maximum speed i can get is closer to 30MB/s write and about 40MB/s read. I haven't changed  anything setup wise physically, and have been through every setting on the NAS and updated firmware e.t.c, and still no luck in getting better speeds. Has anyone else had this problem?
My setup is a router (BT Home Hub 6) than connects to my gigabit switch (8 port un-managed) which is what the NAS and PC connect to. Like i said none of this has changed since i started experiencing problems

Thanks for any help
Lewis

EDIT:
I have just tested my computer talking to another computer connected to the Hub (PC > Switch > Hub > PC) and i can get 95MB/s copying the same file, so i am sure it is something to do with the NAS.

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your DNS? Look at the sticker behind or under the device.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the DNSs web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Probably not a problem rather than a factor of drive performance. How much is on the drive now since you first got it? How long have you had the drive in the DNS? Same drive since or something different?

Be sure to test with any security software disabled on the PC.

Something to try. Install a new drive or a spare drive that you can install and take the old one out. See if performances are better or same.

Hi, Thanks for your advice. The firmware is 1.10 and im unsure of the Hardware version as i'm not home at the moment. I have tried disabling the security software with only a slight performance increase of about 5MB/s. Also the drive has nver been removed. A second was added a few months ago but it never went above about 45MB/s.
I'll look for the hardware version tomorrow, thanks for the help

When you were seeing 80Mb back then, were you using older FW or was this with v1.10?

You might go back to that version and test...You can down grade with out data impact.

Also what OS platform and version are you using?

I am currently running windows 10 Pro, with the latest update (I believe that it is the Fall Creators Update) and it used to work fine on this PC with windows 10.

When did this creators update come thru on Windows? Was the speed the same or better before this update?

It was a few weeks ago, but this issue has been happening for a long time, it's the last couple of weeks that I've needed to have the faster speeds if possible.

Is the DNS using a Dynamic or Static IP address? If Dynamic, you might try a static set ON the DNS, i.e. 192.168.0.32.

Seems odd that you had good speeds and now you don't. How full is the drive(s)?
