Hi all

I have a DIR-655 which I recently upgraded with the latest firmware.

I really wish I hadn't b/c before the update I never once experience a connection problem.

Since updating the firmware I also updated the sharepoint utility to 1.1.0 recommended for the firmware update.

The problem is, occasionally sharepoint finds my printers.  I have 2 hooked up via 1.0 USB (b/c it can't see them through a 2.0 router).  Sometimes the connection works and everything is fine.

Occasionally (at least once a week) the connection inexplicably fails and the only way to restore it is to reboot as many users here have suggested.

The failure happens as follows: the devices are seen by sharepoint as available.  When you try to connect to one of the printers, it will start working and appear to be connecting, only to have it revert back to available.  After trying this several times the only fix is a router reboot which is mighty inconvenient and really stupid.

When is DLink going to fix this.  It's obviously an issue that happens to multiple users and it needs attention.  Obviously the 1.1.0 Sharepoint Utility was either not well QA'd or rushed out the door.

All the systems on my home network are PCs, and I had previously been able to connect flawlessly before I updated the firmware and the utility.

Dlink isnt going to fix it until like 5 years from now. they are VERY slow. dlink went from a great product to a crappy product in which people should stay away until they have a new firmware.

It's been reported that D-Link can't replicate this problem in the lab. Thats their story and they are sticking too it. They are also sticking it to you and me with this bulls***.   >:(

this is ridiculous.  If they are serious about fixing the problem, they should tell me how to enable logging or send me some kind of tool to collect logs and I'll demonstrate.

The stupid thing just went out again and I had to reboot my router AGAIN the 2nd time in 2 days so the problem is getting worse.

Wow DLink, isn't my $125 worth at least 2 months of support?  I haven't even had this stupid thing that long!

I gave up on Shareport just like D-Link did and went back to my old print server. My daughter isn't going to, nor should she have to, reset the router every time she wants to print something. This issue just irks me so much. All I see are the D-Link suck ups making excuses and blaming the problem on "our" setup. It its so easy to screw it up how come the D-Link techs can't replicate it in the LAB. Where is said D-Link techs anyway. Does any body from D-Link actually look at these forums or even post here?

I've just completed installing the DIR-655 and chose to upgrade the firmware to 1.32NA and to Sharepoint 1.10. I seem to be experiencing exactly the same issues as those reported by sharepoint_woes. All my USB devices (a printer/scanner, scanner, and USB hard drive) are visible and available. However whenever I try to connect, the status eventually returns to available without ever connecting.

I was successfully running 1.21EU with Sharepoint 1.15, but I wanted to have OSX compatibility to add a second user, hence the upgrade. One of the reasons I chose the DIR-655 was the sharepoint functionality for both OSX and PC, so it's important to me to get this working. While the Sharepoint interface is better with the latest version, why is it not working more reliably?

I did manage to connect successfully perhaps once, immediately after the install, although I did not use the device before I started having problems.

Any news concerning ability to reproduce the problem and/or supplying a solution?

I upgraded to 1.32NA and SharePORT  Utility 1.1.0 R1 yesterday.  All works well now.  SharePort and SharePoint (security subscription service) are two different beasts from d-link...I suspect some people may confuse the two.  I do not use the SharePoint service.

SharePORT HEADSUP
One thing you MUST keep in mind with the SharePORT Utility is to use the 1.1.0 version and not the 1.14 or 1.15 versions if your router firmware is up-to-date (eg. 1.32).  If your SharePort utility popup is a simplistic box rather than the 1.1.0 "black and blue graphic interface" with an "arching blue signal (3 lines) icon" in your system tray, you are not going to get the SharePort to work with Router firmware 1.32NA.  I learned that after a few hours of play and properly reading the download website comments.  It is not intuitive to consider 1.1.0 better than something that is 1.15.  To make matters worse, there is a new SharePort Utility manual labelled v2.0...I erroneously thought that there would be a SharePort Utility update V2.0 originally...not so.   ;)

Sorry - the Sharepoint was a typo. I am using sharePORT V1.1.0 R1 with the 1.32NA firmware. Still waiting for an update that works (thinking about returning the device as I'm also experiencing problems with wireless connection to the MAC, even unsecured)

I am using Firmware 1.32NA with the corressponding Shareport.  I use my USB harddrive on Shareport. 

Problem is that after every few minutes, I get disconnected on the Shareport and then get connected again.  It is really irritating if you are copying files accross that USB harddrive.

I haven't tried the new Beta, but I may give it a go.
