DIR 655 slow down my internet connection
« on: January 27, 2018, 08:36:21 AM »

Hey, ill updated my internet connection today and I get some huge speed problems while using the Dir 655 Rev b1 (Firmware 2.09)
QOS is off.
SPI is off.
WAN-Port @ 1000mbit

I only use wired connections and here are my results:

with DLINK DIR 655:

with direct Connection:

So i got the questions is this router able to handle that speed? If yes what could i try to fix that problem? =)

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?
  • Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?

Set IPv6 to Local Link only.

Older router don't have any HW NAT or Cut Thru technology so you might be hitting it's limits.  :-\
To check this, set the 655 up as a LAN to LAN AP using this method:
Turning a router into an AP.
The run a wired speed test while connected wired thru the 655...

hey so lets do this step by step =)

- Im located in germany
- the connection is wired only

ISP:
- its a cable connection
- Modem and model this could be hard it seems like my provirder "Unitymedia" has its own model
https://www.unitymedia.de/content/dam/unitymedia-de/assets-de/pdf/Connect-Box-Interaktives-Benutzerhandbuch.pdf

IPv6 is already set to "only local connections"

If i set the 655 to an AP the connection looks fine:

So it looks like the WAN to LAN forwarding limits the speed :/

probably hitting HW/CPU limitation of the 655. I have 200Mb/10Mb here and I think last time I checked my 655 it was hitting this or just below it. I was working about two years ago when I had 100/3.

Your ISP modem is a gateway router so this could have some impact however since you tested the 655 in AP mode and bypass the WAN on it, I presume this is just a limitation of the HW/FW on the WAN side.

You could try v2.11 or 2.12 and see if they improve anything. However I presume you may not see any improvements.

I would use the 655 as a wired LAN to LAN AP from now on though.
