Hi,

Am having weird problems trying to reset D-Link DIR-835 (KA2IR835A1) router running 1.04 version of the firmware. I don't have the admin password and can't login into the router.

What I tried:

1. Placed the router into the reset mode by holding the reset button for about 10 sec and after the reboot went through the setup wizard setting up the WiFi connection names/password, admin password and time zone. The setup wizard seemed to work fine and finished by rebooting the router. However when the router came back and I tried to login with my newly setup password it did not work resulting in "Authentication failed" error. Tried several passwords: long one (8+chars), short one (4 chars) and no password at all (i.e. empty one), still was getting the "Authentication failed" error. The setup wizard does appear to write something back to the router, e.g. enabling/disabling the graphic login option when setting up admin password does work.

2.Tried flashing 1.04 version of the firmware again from the emergency recovery mode (see http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=44909.msg163599#msg163599 ). Tried several times, never got the success page, not sure what's wrong.

What region are you located?

PC Web Browser Configurations
What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF. Try IE11, set compatibility mode and test again. (For older generation routers.)
Disable any security browser Add-ons like No Script and Ad-Block or configure them to allow All Pages when connected to the router.
Clear all browser caches.

Let us know if using IE11 in compatibility mode works...

Yes, the problem was the browser: did not work in Firefox v52 but did work in Konqueror v4.8 (I'm on GNU+Linux). Weird. Thanks to everyone who responded.

AH ok, yes, newer versions of browsers may have some compatibility issues with older routers
