Looking for www.********.com
« on: August 20, 2009, 11:46:22 PM »

I have been using a DIR-655 (firmware 1.31) connected to several PC's for 2 yrs now with very few problems other than regular dropped wireless connectivity that is easily fixed by the repair function. Recently I purchased a Mac Pro which was easy to setup (auto) with the Airport wifi.

Just one puzzling problem which is giving me a hard time. I cannot connect to one particular site (rapidshare.com) when using the Mac (doesn't matter what browser, the same result every time "looking for. . . . cannot find the server at www.rapidshare.com). Yet the site is accessible by all the PC's in the house.

I have been told by Apple techs (not surprised) that it is not software or hardware settings on the Mac Pro. Could it be a setting on the router specific to the architecture of Macs that is blocking this one particular site?   ???

Have whatever opinion of the site you want, that is okay by me. I do buy lots of software, but only after I really know it suits my needs.

If this is not a router issue then I apologize.

If you can not reach a web site from one PC / MAC, this usually means that the "DNS" services on that unit is usually unable to find the correct IP address.

When connected to the internet, the DNS requests are processed by your ISP (default) unless you changed this in your modem or router setup. I assume you're not running a DNS server yourself.
